LOTTIE RYAN WILL present her first ever radio show on 2fm tomorrow morning.
The daughter of the late Gerry Ryan will host ‘The Early, Early Breakfast Show with Lottie Ryan’, which will air Saturday and Sunday mornings from 6am.
She previously worked for the radio station as the showbiz reporter for The Colm Hayes show and in the same position for RTÉ’s live afternoon show The Daily Show from 2010 to 2012.
Commenting today, Ryan said she was “thrilled” to be getting her own show and joining the new schedule.
“It’s very exciting times ahead as 2fm evolves and I’m delighted to be a part of the team,” she said. “Whether you’re an early riser or only coming in from the night before – this will be the station you’ll want to listen to early mornings!”
Head of 2fm, Dan Healy said Ryan has a “strong and colourful personality” and “it’s not off the ground she licked that!”
The move is part of a general shake up in 2fm with a number of new presenters coming on board.

It Is really up to the listeners, nobody is making people listen to her, if they tune out she won’t last, if she is a success it will be because she is a good broadcaster, simple as that.

That word ‘begrudger’ is thrown around like confetti these days. It’s like a crap Irish version of ‘haters’. If you don’t drop down on your knees and kiss someones arse you’re automatically a begrudger. It’s utter nonsense.
Her father may have passed on but I am sure he had a few friends in management and to me it really does smack of nepotism from RTE. Many believe this appointment is astounding and I am inclined to agree with them. I dont know her maybe she is a lovely person but many people including myself believe only got the job because of who her dad was. It would be different if it wasn’t with RTE radio, and she actually had propper previous experience.
Been a showbiz reporter is 1 or 2 minute’s segments of air time. Been a lone show host without a co presenter is quite another. I really think RTE while they have barely any credibility this appointment has lessened it considerably. It really does not look right given her lack of presenter experience.

As someone who works for a small radio station and is trying to work their way up the foodchain in the radio business I’m sickened by this latest bulls**t from RTE.
All they are doing is using names, cronyism and nepotism to fill true schedule. This kind of thing is going to put people like me off wanting to work in the radio business because it clearly does not matter how good or bad you are all that matters is getting to know someone in RTE or hoping a relative already works there.
Hopefully this just continues the downward slide of 2FM and places like FM104 and Today FM continue to uphold some decency in radio, keep good, WORTHY presenters on air and keep destroying 2FM in the ratings.

While I agree with you Mike you shouldnt feel singled out in the radio business. Nepotism and cronyism exist in all areas of life in Ireland, it always has. It is partly to blame for why “We are where we are” as a country. We have never put our best foot forward because we have never put our best people forward,instead we have put the TD’s brother, the Chief Superintendents son, the county footballer, the good looking lass, the “celeb” into important positions because “they are sound” or “If you can do anything for them I’ll return the favour” or “remember how I looked after you, you owe me” syndromes
As masters of our own fate we have failed miserably because we have never looked beyond the parish pump.
As a regular listener of early morning radio, this is terrible news. Heard her on numerous occasions and she is just dreadful, repeats her name and the name of the show to fill time and says nothing of interest. I’m certain there is far more talented people out there than her. She’s boring.

I’m not a betting man but I really don’t see her going the distance. 2FM really have in recent made some extremely poor decisions in relation to moving around popular presenters and replacing them with extreme “wild card presenters” .
I fear that this move will add to the straw that’s slowly breaking the 2FM camels back…
We will find out in six or eight months time whether the changes work and if people are still tuning in, 2fm can’t really survive with low viewers and subsequent low advertising revenue. Some of the recent additions to the line up have been atrocious.
I can’t imagine too many people will be up at 6am on a Saturday or Sunday morning anyway to listen to Lottie’s annoying Dort accent.

Jeremy, none of us know whether there were any other applicants or if there were who they are or if they were better than her or not. So to call it nepotism is presumption probably laced with more than a little envy. (By the way, I saw her on TV and couldn’t stand her – especially her accent, but that doesn’t mean lots of other people don’t like her).
All the best to her, if she is half as good as her dad she will be doing ok. It’s not a face for radio though, I reckon tv is beckoning in the years to come.

Disgrace really! After all Gerry never discussed his addiction with cocaine and he lost a wonderful opportunity to perhaps reach other addicts and tell how difficult drug addiction is. Perhaps his daughter will discuss what effect addiction has on family members !! But as always RTE will circle the wagons on this opportunity !!!!

Gerry judged addicts on his show on a regular basis . He always spoke down to addicts and had the attitude he was better than them! Now after his death we know why!! Why should I have to pay taxes and license fees to another member of his family I am sure that there are much better qualified young broadcasters around !! Same old same old nonsense from RTE!!

I’m sure her dad would be very proud of her, it’s just a pity she didn’t get the job on her own merits. Rte like everything else in Ireland is a joke, I know people who free lance for them and are pretty much treated like slave labour , but it goes on because, “people should be glad to have a job ” , and the freelancer hopes that if they try and work hard for many years they might get made staff and get some benefits for all their hard work, but does this happen. No, why ? , well because there’s too many old timers working there who won’t move on. Why are these vacancies not advertised? Why are RTE headhunting people from other organisations & wasting tax payers money by doing so? RTE are a semi-state company with obligations regarding recruitment, if this was any other semi-state company then RTE would be doing a Prime Time Investigates programme on them as well as giving them a grilling on Morning Ireland show.

Before we all jump to judge your forgetting a few main points in this.
She IS Gerry Ryan’s daughter and not an unknown newcomer. She already has a name, presence, marketability etc built in for the show and also there’s a buzz created around the show (negative or positive) because of this. It’s saving money in marketing/branding when compared to an unknown being given the same slot. So I think it’s a smart move in that sense (we’re all talking about it).
Secondly, the girl or should I say, woman has worked and served her time in radio so why doesn’t she deserve the shot considering she has been a contributor on 2FM for the last while. In house promotion is not uncommon and we all would prefer it (I would rather I got the promotion over an outside recruit). Look at the example of Louise Duffy on TodayFM making the same transition from AA reporter, not coincidentally to the same time slot.
These are just two examples why she deserves the job as much, if not more than others. I hear people crying double standards, but that’s exactly what are being applied to her. I write this comment to maybe increase a reasoned, objective view on the topic. Best of luck to her in her new role and if it doesn’t go well so be it. Personally, I think it will.
Louise Duffy is absolutely awful, I turn off Today FM when she’s on (it’s usually my station of choice).

Apparently nepotism is wrong if your not the one benefiting from it.
People talk about nepotism as if it’s a bad thing, it preserves class structures which can only be a good thing. If a job is going and I give it to a family member that is my choice, why should I give it to someone I don’t know or care about, the alarming thing is these people think they have some sort if right or entitlement to a job. My friend is a barrister and gave his daughter a job she did some short course as a lea gal secretary or something like that, another female who was no relation started giving out about this as she is fully qualified blah blah blah, do people really have that sense of entitlement that they think they are more important than immediate family members. My daughter is 16 and assists during the summer in the office of one if my businesses some people seem to think my daughter would be emptying bins rather than performing performance appraisals on their output- some got a right shock when after 20 year they were told they better buck up if ship out. This can only be a good thing

This nepotism in RTE really grates on me. What hope have the kids doing media degrees have when our national broadcaster just seems to give opportunities to the children of employees (alive or dead). I’ve seen this first hand in the production side of things as well. It’s life — if you were as successful as Gerry Ryan you would want to use that to help out your kids.
The big problem with nepotism in Ireland is that as a country we have too many talentless failed parents who haven’t succeeded in anything.
Their children then venomously oppose any other individual with a family background in anything who might pursue the same line if work as their successful parents.

Give the poor girl a break!! So what if she got the job due to her father’s successes? I can see how others trying to break into the radio business might feel frustrated at this but that’s not her fault. You should be supportive of her, not jealous. I read that she studied radio broadcasting in university and has been working her way up in 2fm for 5 years or so! Nobody is forcing you all to listen!!! I hope none of you have children that you hope will follow in your own footsteps – i.e try to break into the profession you have chosen. I’m sure if they did you would try to help them or use the contacts you’ve made in your industry. What if Brian O’Driscoll has a son and he makes the ireland team??? Surely just by his father’s reputation people will pay more attention to him. Or Brendan Gleeson’s son being up for the same award as his dad!!! He has proved himself on his own merit but I’m sure his dad helped him as much as he could. It happens in every walk of life – be they celebrity or different careers!!!! Why doesn’t everyone get up at 6am tomorrow and listen to the show. If you hate it then don’t listen again! If the ratings are poor Lottie’s fate will be decided!
The fact that this 6am weekend show is getting so much publicity – with people leaving all these comments and opinions – proves exactly why 2fm picked her instead of some random person that no one would bat an eyelid at.
