Snake gobbles up crocodile after fierce battle

“When you actually looked at the snake, you could actually see the crocodile’s ridges, legs and everything inside its belly,” a witness said.

A HUGE SNAKE has won a life and death battle against a crocodile in Australia, swallowing the animal whole after a lengthy struggle before amazed onlookers.

Travis Corlis, who watched the fight at Queensland’s Lake Moondarra, near the mining town of Mount Isa, yesterday, said the snake, thought to be a python, was about 10 feet long and “healthy looking”.

The crocodile, which the snake coiled itself around, was about three feet in length, he said.

“They had quite the struggle in the water,” he told AFP. “It was an ongoing battle.

“We were just standing there in amazement watching it.”

Corlis said several hours after he first saw the encounter, he noticed the snake had pulled the crocodile onto the banks of the lake and released its prey, which by this stage was dead.

“About 10 minutes later the crocodile was gone,” he said, referring to the creature being eaten.

His wife Tiffany described the battle as “just unbelievable”.

“We were sort of thinking that the snake had bitten off a little more than it could chew,” she told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“But it did. It actually ate the crocodile.”

She added: “When you actually looked at the snake, you could actually see the crocodile’s ridges, legs and everything inside its belly.”

(Video: Barcroft TV/YouTube)

Tiffany said the crocodile had struggled to keep its head out of the water, and while both animals had clearly tired during their marathon fight for survival, “finally, the croc sort of gave in”.

Travis Corlis said while crocodiles and snakes were both common in the area, he had never seen them battle each other in such a way.

Freshwater crocodiles are known to inhabit Lake Moondarra and Travis Corlis said a recent drought had seen the water level drop, making them more visible.

“I think it might just have been nature at its best,” he said.

Its sick to see these people being targeted, its not far on them. How the f#%k can you justify paying already rich politicians more money and hiring consultations that are paid mindboggling sums of money while sitting down and saying ‘yeah lets cut services to these people, sure they can do without’. That’s sick, i don’t low how they sleep at night.

paddy…you “bring him out” most weekends…not “we go out together each weekend”, see the difference in language. disabled people marched today, yes marched, whats with picking on the word march? we marched myself and my scissor twin (in pic) because this government and previous governments are making our lives a living hell. we cannot cope with the dreadful services even as they are let alone more damn cuts. my twin, in pic has her hand in plaster because she fell and there has been no extra help . today she brought in coal to her fire from outside and we are seriously weak from a neurodegenerative muscle wasting disease. no the community don’t help…it’s a dire existance

You’re right – not very smart. My son has autism (a disability). He can march & so can plenty of others with disabilities – you must be one of those who gives my friend with MS a hard time when she parks in a space for people with disabilities – no wheelchair in sight so surely she’s not entitled. Five thousand was a great turnout but it could be ten times that only lots of people have no one to care for their loved ones with disabilities so couldn’t attend. Well done & thank you to those who did on our behalf

You said it 400000 unemployed. I would expect those 400000 people to be dying to jump up and hit the streets to March, but they won’t,….. tell me why that is? Too busy watching Kyle, cant afford the bus fare yada yada. Some people just don’t have the steel it takes to get control of their own life, sorry it’s a fact. The working tax payer is in his/her job Mon/Fri etc.and still doin their best to survive, why should they be emotionally blackmailed into protesting when they are still getting it done? They should protest if they want or have time.

I’ll tell you why they wont march and protest, because if they do the cushy welfare payments (not all but most) will be cut due to lack of funding . This is the reality which you dont hear too much on the comments section here.

    Regards,
    Adebayo
