THE GENERAL SECRETARY of the largest transport union in the UK has died aged 52.
Bob Crow was one of the mostly widely known union leaders in the UK for being at the forefront of disputes with the UK government and for overseeing strikes on the London Underground.
A statement from the Rail Maritime and Transport union this morning confirmed Crow’s passing:
It is with the deepest regret that RMT has to confirm that our General Secretary Bob Crow sadly passed away in the early hours of this morning. The union’s offices will be closed for the rest of the day and the union will make further announcements in due course.
“The media have been asked to respect the privacy of Bob’s friends and family at this difficult and distressing time.”
Crow led the RMT since 2002 and only last month a threatened strike by the union halted the closure of 260 ticket offices on the London Underground network that could have led to the loss of 950 jobs.
Speaking on Sky News, former London Mayor Ken Livingstone paid tribute to Crow:
He fought really hard for his members. The only working-class people who still have well-paid jobs in London are his members.
Bob Crow was a true champion for workers and fought relentlessly to improve their pay and conditions over many years. He was loved by his members in the RMT across Britain. He was also a friend of SIPTU and of Irish workers and never failed to support them whenever he could.

Dept of Foreign Affairs is kind of late to the party with that advice. The east coast airports are closed. People couldn’t travel even of they wanted to.
The first paragraph does not make sense because you won’t be able to travel to the US. All flights are cancelled to the north east.
To be fair, the advice is also intended for people who aren’t necessarily travelling directly from Ireland.

No, but like I said, if you’re not currently in Ireland and happened to be, say, elsewhere in the USA, perhaps you were intending to drive to the north-east?
People need to be told this? Anyone likely to look to see probably already has a fair idea of what’s going on there,
You’d be surprised (maybe not) at the stupidity of some people still.

Silly to state these things but sadly have to still be done because people can be stupid.
