Fianna Fáil: Mary Hanafin is NOT running in the local elections

The party refuted media reports this morning.

FIANNA FÁIL HAS confirmed to TheJournal.ie that Mary Hanafin will not be running as a candidate in the local elections later this month.

A spokesperson for the party refuted media reports today that she was added to the party ticket in a last-minute move.

Nominations for the local elections close at noon today.

“Nobody has been added to the ticket in Blackrock,” the spokesperson said. “It is a one-person ticket and Kate Feeney is the candidate.”

It is understood Hanafin had expressed an interest in running in south Dublin but the party did not want more than one candidate in the ward.

Fianna Fáil is standing over first-timer Kate Feeney in the Blackrock constituency. The 28-year-old local accountant is running a campaign based on getting the area “thriving again”.

She has been backed ahead of Hanafin, a former minister who recently described her party’s performance in the capital as “brutal” and “absolutely appalling”.

Mary Hanafin has not returned calls this morning. She has previously indicated a wish to return to politics, making her intention of running for a seat in the next General Election widely known.

Mary Hanafin: Fianna Fáil are doing brutal, appalling… but I will run in next election

    @Rodger 5:
    We did not have a viable sugar industry in Ireland, it was heavily subsidised, when the subsides were withdrawn it died.
    Bottom line, it costs roughly the same to grow 1 acre of beet in Ireland as in France, in Ireland you would do well to produce 3 tonnes of raw sugar from that acre, in France it would be at least 5.
    We cannot compete on the world market.
