Newly appointed CRC board will receive no remuneration

The Central Remedial Clinic’s board were independently appointed based on their competences.

THE CENTRAL REMEDIAL Clinic (CRC) has announced its new board of govenors as the organisation attempts to “rebuild its reputation”.

It follows the entire board resigning late last year following a controversy over the use of charitable funds to pay any additional salary amounts over the Department of Health’s pay scale.

Former Chief Executive of the CRC Paul Kiely received a top-up of €135,000, on top of his basic salary of €116,000.

The board appointed today will receive no remuneration, a statement from the organisation said:

Their role will be to govern, guide and support the CRC as it moves forward and rebuilds its reputation both nationally and internationally.

All were appointed using Boardmatch, an independent organisation, and were selected based on their competencies.

The new CEO, Stephanie Manahan, was appointed using the Public Appointments Service, and will take on the role at the start of next month.

She is a former Chair of the National Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland and most recently was Deputy Hospital Manager in Connolly Hospital, Dublin.

The new chairman, Kieran J. Timmins, said the new board “faces many challenges”.

“The most important task involves rebuilding the trust and goodwill of the people who use our services, our staff and our other supporters,” he noted.

“It is my understanding that the report of the interim administrator is due to be presented to the Director General of the HSE in the coming weeks.”

I would expect there will be many important recommendations contained within this report and the implementation of those recommendations where appropriate will be an absolute priority for the incoming board.

Here’s the full list:

  • Chairman: Kieran J. Timmins, currently CEO and a founding member of SmartCentric Technologies International Ltd.
  • Vice-Chairperson: Carol Ann Casey, Managing Director of CA Compliance; a firm that specialises in Human Resources consulting and governance services.
  • Emer Moriarty Crowley, a senior corporate lawyer, specialising in corporate law and governance.
  • Damien Daly, Director of Marketing and Customer Analytics at Bank of Ireland Group.
  • Tom Fleming, Director of Human Resources at Volkswagen Group Ireland
  • Sean Hickey, Head of Information Technology for Boots Contract Manufacturing
  • Malcolm MacLachlan, Professor of Global Health at Trinity College Dublin and Extraordinary Professor of Rehabilitation at Stellenbosch University, South Africa
  • Chris McEllhinney, a Chartered Accountant
  • Tom Quinn, a qualified Barrister and is retired having served as RTÉ Group Secretary.

Sounds like a good initiative. Hopefully it’ll go to plan and do what it aims to.

There are so many single view articles on the Journal that it is hard to believe the Good Information Project. Who will be responsible for deciding what information is “good”? We only have to look at the headline the Journal put out this-morning about Sinn Fein putting ads in US papers, but it wasn’t actually Sinn Fein. Where’s the “good Information” there? Practice what you preach.

@Alan Wright: ah come on Alan, that is not fair. The journal is a beacon of independent academic truth finding. You accuse them of being biased??? Well well well, what makes you think that?!

@Alan Wright: Oh and the Politburo decides what is “good”, in conjunction with the Reichskulturkammer.

The good information project should maybe look at the previous article and it’s headline. Sinn Fein did NOT runs ads in America, an amalgamatIon of Irish groups there ran them.

Can Ireland be carbon-emission free by 2050? – We’re destined to shovel water from this sinking raft forever. Maybe in a decade the second hand electric car market will open up the idea to 90% of the population and there’s already barely any public transport so yea, maybe.

What should the working week look like after the Covid-19 crisis? – Get money however you can, the idea that we’re building for the ‘future’ through progress is laughable at this stage.

What could a new Constitution look like? – Words on a piece of paper.

@thesaltyurchin: Maybe you are right about our situation at the moment but maybe not. The pandemic, as well as having been a bloody awful nightmare has also had some unforseen positive effects – for example, the way Zoom and other platforms like it have opened up the possibilities of rearranging how people work, as well as allowing people who would not have previously have done so to engage in all sorts of classes, webinars, etc, thus broadening their knowledge base.
