GARDAÍ AND DEFENCE Forces were called to make safe a viable device at a hotel in Lucan.
The Finnstown House hotel was evacuated last night as a Defence Forces Explosive Ordinances Disposal unit was called when a pipe bomb was found in the car park.
A Defence Forces spokesperson confirmed to TheJournal.ie that the the bomb squad had been in attendance from 11.30pm to 3.30am and that the device was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion.
It was, however, confirmed that the device was viable and capable of causing damage.
Gardaí evacuated the premises, a spokesperson said, as gardaí from Lucan and Ronanstown attended the scene.
Gardaí are continuing their investigations into the incident.
A hotel spokesperson did not wish to comment.
