Eamonn Coghlan impersonates a constituent and trends on Twitter - but not in a good way

This wasn’t the former World Champion runner’s finest performance…

AN IMPERSONATION OF a constituent in Dublin West by the Fine Gael candidate Eamonn Coghlan saw his name trend in Ireland last night and left more than a few criticising the former Olympian.

TV3′s Vincent Browne programme hosted a debate for the Dublin West by-election featuring all of the candidates with things pretty heated throughout.

But there was a bizarre intervention from Coghlan, a sitting senator, where he began an animated impersonation of a man he met in the constituency this week.

After bizarrely imitating the man’s anger towards him, Coghlan went on to claim that he told the man he met that he did not come to see him looking for his vote but rather just to introduce himself.

The former World Champion runner’s name later began trending in Ireland:

And Coghlan was ridiculed by more than a few people on Twitter from opposition politicians to the ordinary punters and critical viewers:

I know that that lady and her husband have spent every waking moment of the last 16 years trying to find their baby boy. It’s a compounded grief now that she is going to her grave not knowing what happened to her beloved son. And somebody out there knows something. Completely devoid of any humanity to allow that to happen.
I don’t know about an afterlife but at times like this I truly hope that there is one and that Nancy is reunited with her baby boy again, forever. RIP x

That’s very sad, losing a child is the worst nightmare a parent can experience in life.

God love that poor family, they have been through hell. It breaks my heart that lady never found out where her son is. My condolences to her family.
