Fine Gael and Labour face support fallout, as polls show a boost for Sinn Féin

This poll shows a significant drop in support for the coalition parties in comparison to the 2009 election.

BOTH FINE GAEL and Labour are tipped for a significant drop in support at Friday’s elections according to the latest Irish Times Ipsos MRBI poll published in today’s newspaper.

Sinn Féin, on the other hand, are set to make significant gains.

The poll asked what party voters intended to vote for – and excluding undecided voters – Fine Gael stands at 23 per cent, while Labour is at seven per cent.

This is a drop of nine and seven points, respectively, in comparison to the 2009 election.

However, Sinn Féin sees its support on the rise, standing at 19 per cent of the vote, up 12 points.

Fianna Fáil is ahead of the coalition partner standing at 23 per cent.

Independents and other parties, including the Green Party, stand at 28 per cent.

The poll was  taken on Thursday, Friday and Saturday last and surveyed 1500 people.
