Google knocks Apple off the top spot to become the world's most valuable brand

The company is worth €116 billion, having increased in value by 40 per cent over the year.

GOOGLE IS NOW the world’s most valuable brand after knocking Apple off the top spot.

The findings, which was part of the BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brand 2014, saw Google increase in value by 40 per cent, making it worth €116 billion.

Apple, which topped the rankings for three years, decreased in value by 20 per cent, leaving it with an value of €107 billion.

The report put this down to a growing perception that it’s no longer “redefining technology for customers,” such as a lack of new product launches which captured the imagination. Google, on the other hand

Following it was B2B company IBM, which is worth $107 billion while Microsoft, which announced its latest Surface Pro tablet yesterday, grew in value by 29 per cent to give it a value of €65 billion.

Other companies which made the top ten included McDonalds (€62 billion), Coca-Cola (€58 billion), Visa (€57 billion), AT&T (€56 billion), Marlboro (€48 billion), and Amazon (€46 billion). Facebook took the No. 21 spot, rising in value by 68 per cent to €26 billion while Twitter made its debut with a value of €10 billion, placing it at No. 71.

The top 100 companies combined are worth €2.1 trillion, the value of which increased by 49 per cent since 2008. The industries which saw the greatest increase included Apparel, cars, retail, luxury and technology.

Great, 84 new real estate agents.
I’ll cross my fingers for them as I believe the Central Bank just strangled their golden goose.

The main problem we have is the amount of money being taken out of our economy to service a debt run up by irresponsible banks, both here and abroad. Until that problem is tackled there just isn’t enough money in our economy for real sustained growth for indigenous businesses. I’ve only stayed in business because I did not have huge loans to service and I was able to keep my overheads low. Ive seen plenty of good businesses go under because they can no longer sustain the overheads imposed by landlords & councils that still work on tiger prices.

    Michael,
The banks were less than half the problem. The collapse of govt revenue and inability to cut the servicing of public services quickly to match revenue was just as big a problem

Isn’t that it will “beat all predictions” a prediction, meaning that it can never actually beat all predictions?
