Siblings appeal for driver to explain what happened the night their brother was killed

Keith Byrne’s body was discovered just metres from his home in Carnalogue, county Louth earlier this month.

THE SIBLINGS OF a hit-and-run victim have made a direct appeal to the driver who struck their brother in the early hours of 11 May.

Speaking to RTÉ’s Crimecall, to be broadcast tonight, Niamh and John Byrne asked for the person responsible to “come forward, explain what happened that night”.

“It’ll help us maybe come to terms with what happened Keith,” they said.

Gardaí believe Keith Byrne, 35, was killed between 4.23am and 4.50am just metres from his home in the Louth village of Carnalogue.

He had been out for the night with friends and walked the short distance to his house. He was fatally injured when he was struck by a vehicle.

His body was discovered by a passing motorist later that morning.

“Everytime we walk out our front door we can see where Keith was killed,” says Niamh.

We’re grieving Keith but somebody knows something, someone has to know something. And to them people think of your own mother and father, your brothers and sisters, or your nieces and nephews and how they’d feel if that was their family. You know, come forward, explain what happened that night. It’ll help us maybe come to terms with what happened Keith.

John describes how he worked with Keith for eight or nine years.

“A great brother. To think now that we’ll never get the chance to work together again it’s hard to accept. It’s very hard to accept.”

Mobile phone triangulation could easily indicate the very small number of cell phones moving within this rural area at this hour of the morning.

yes,but the problem there is the law, its there to protect the criminals data protection rights !!
Seemingly it takes a lot of work to get the operators to run this simple report, if that was me in situation i would be pressing the guards to find this info.
The law should be changed to make it easier for the guards to get some info from mobile operators easier.
But that wont happen in Ireland, as it would make too much sense.

Yes but with a death in this case, I dont think it will be much of a problem getting any operators to release these reports. No doubt they are already looking at this at the moment, hopefully anyway.

It is very sad that you have been left in this position. My sympathy goes to you all, I have dealt with files that have been read by police and a crucial piece of evidence was missed. See if you can read the file or your solicitor .Break down notes. Ask the coroner was their any paint traces of metal and colours found on the clothing of the deceased. Then look to see if any Cctv was collected by police.

This coward who knocked this victim down, you need to free yourself from your guilt and tell somebody, you cannot be sleeping at night. The guilt memory imprint will eventually beat you, so start now to tell the truth. The family need the truth. This won’t become a cold case ever. Make the call and tell the truth.
