IT STARTED IN Belgium and they’ve done it in more than 40 different countries since but this week, ‘Dinner in the Sky’ came to Dublin.
Centra hosted a picnic in the air yesterday afternoon to promote its new gourmet sandwich range so we got to try out the contraption. Guest were strapped into their seats, like in a rollercoaster, and the seven tonne table was hoisted into the air by a large crane. In total, 100 people got the chance to dine in the clouds yesterday.
In a few countries, these sky-high restaurants have suspended a band or orchestra in the air to entertain their guests. At the Point Village in Dublin, we had some decent enough tunes pumped in through the speakers.
For the most part, the restaurant is stationary but they give it a bit of a spin halfway through so you can take in all of the views.
And those views were a bit of alright:

If you’re afraid of heights, it’s probably a good idea not to look down:
But, you’ll be glad to know, we all got down safely in the end. Unfortunately, Dinner in the Sky is not a permanent fixture in Dublin so you won’t have a chance to try it right now, but we have a feeling it’ll be back.

That video adds nothing and it seems from the photos like it’s having lunch on top of one of those Funderland rides. Killiney Hill is nice, why not have lunch up there if you want a view.

I think we need a new category for these “celebs”. Z just isn’t cutting it these days

Days nothing, me and a few other lads used to have our lunch at the edge of the roof of Liberty Hall sitting in the ziggyzaggy bit 190 feet up. The copper roof was a great Suntrap but then we were not aware of the cancer risk. We were aware of the danger of falling off but we were all hard chaws back then :-)
Well I would need to be strapped down before I would eat a Centra sandwich and hoisted 100ft in the air to avoid risk and shame of anyone seeing me eat said food #JustSaying

I always thought it was a pity they didn’t put a revolving restaurant or viewing platform on the the Spire. It would nearly have paid for itself by now. I would definitely try that restaurant in the sky. Hope it comes back!
