BUGGING

Taoiseach's office has GSOC bugging report but he hasn't seen it yet

The Taoiseach is not likely to see the report until Monday as he is currently on a trade mission in California.

THE REPORT INTO alleged bugging at the offices of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has been delivered to the Taoiseach’s office.

Retired High Court Judge John Cooke was appointed in February by then Minister for Justice Alan Shatter to conduct the inquiry in to the controversy.

GSOC had employed a security firm to undertake a security sweep of its headquarters in Dublin and certain issues like a signal being picked up on a phone in the offices and wifi anomalies emerged. However the ombudsman has always stressed that there is no evidence of bugging at the offices.

This evening a spokesperson for the Taoiseach confirmed that his office has received the Cooke report. However they added that “the Taoiseach hasn’t seen it yet because he’s over in California for a trade mission with the IDA”.

The Taoiseach returns from his trip on Sunday and is likely to get his first look at the report on Monday.
