Aero Icarus

Aer Lingus and Impact are sitting down this morning to try to sort out all their differences

The two will attend the Labour court in attempt to settle a long-running dispute over rosters.

AER LINGUS AND trade union Impact will attend talks at the at the Labour court this morning in an attempt to settle a long-running dispute over rosters.

Talks fell through on Friday after Impact, which is representing cabin crew workers, claimed management at Aer Lingus had offered them a ‘take it or leave it’ proposal.

However, the airline strenuously denied that talks had collapsed, stating it was willing to continue discussions.

Following several pleas from Minister for Transport for both parties to take advantage of the State’s industrial relations machinery, the parties will now meet at the Labour Relations Court (LRC) later this morning.

Public interest

The LRC, under legislation that allows the court to intervene in a case that is in the public interest, invited both parties to take part in talks.

However, strike action planned for later this month has not been called off, planned for June 16 and 18.

The dispute centres around rostering patterns for cabin crews.

They argue the current system does not give them adequate time for rest after long flights, and have pleaded for a system of five days on and three days off to be introduced.

The talks today have been welcomed by the Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA), who believe further strikes would “once again put unfair inconvenience and additional costs onto the consumers”.

CEO Pat Dawson said:

“We hope that both parties will enter the negotiations with an open mind and that they will work in unison to resolve this issue in a manner that is satisfactory for all involved.”

They’ll probably hold an enquiry, but it seems plane enough.

@Larry Williams: one died from covid having spent the over 8 months in hospital. Looks like another was a biking accident. Not sure about the other 2, but it’d be great to stop making assumptions and wait until facts come out……

@Anthony Keenan: BA have also since confirmed that none of the 4 are linked and none relate to the vaccine

@Larry Williams: Two are certainly not linked. One was a bike accident, another was from complications having spent over a year in hospital in the States following an illness.

@Anthony Keenan: Take what they say with a pinch of salt. The BBC also tried to cover up Lisa Shaw’s death until her family went public. Now another reporter, Dom Nugent, is dead after “a short illness”. 11 weeks after the vaccine.

@johnny onion eye: You keep pretending to yourself that all of these deaths of young, healthy people have absolutely nothing to do with these jabs if you want. They also said Lisa Shaw’s death was from a short illness also until her family spoke out.

@Larry Williams: Call us whatever names you like, but it’s looking like they were vaccine related. Someone mentioned the one that died from a bike accident as if it can’t be related. The autopsy shows he died from internal abdominal bleeding not consistent with the accident. Abdominal bleeding, like clots, is another much more common occurence than is being reported.
