TWO MEN WERE arrested last night after smashing a window on a late-night bus on Dublin’s Dorset Street.
The incident occurred on the 122 bus heading to Ashington at around 11.45pm last night.
Witnesses say that two men, aged 19 and 21, boarded the bus on Dorset Street without paying a fare, went upstairs and opened an emergency exit.
This forced the driver to stop the bus. The two men then proceeded to begin kicking windows upstairs, smashing one.
Gardaí arrived and the two men were arrested. They were taken to Store Street Garda Station and charged with criminal damage.
They will appear before Dublin District Court at a later date.
Dublin Bus could not comment on the matter because of the arrests, but said that the level of anti-social behaviour on buses is relatively small and decreasing in terms of journeys taken.
The company says it has a “strong working relationship” with gardaí and has a number of initiatives to help drivers and passengers stay safe.

Because Dublin bus doesn’t pursue them for costs even if they do take them to court. Dublin bus turned a blind eye to all sorts over the years & now only a zero tolerance approach will work with this type of offender. Sadly however due to limited resources, that will not happen. Proof of broken windows theory if ever it were needed. Still, at least it was a window they decided to kick & not a passenger or staff member. Token fine & suspended sentence ought to straighten these ruffians out

Last week 2 plastic bags dumped in our area, kids set fire to them last night, Fire Brigade called and today engineers replacing the burnt out cables for NTL, nothing will be done about the dumping or the fire ….

Mindless violence. If your pissed off about something try to use it constructively to change life for the better.thay should be made to clean Windows for Dublin bus for six months.

I saw this happen on a bus once, the window landed on a car bonnet. Thankfully the driver got onto the bus with a baton and taught him the error of his ways. The driver was only too happy to oblige

I really don’t understand what goes through a person’s brain when they decide to do that…. I mean what gain can be garnered from kicking in a window on a bus. The stupidity of a few really and truly makes me wonder sometimes about what makes people decide to do such a thing. Imbeciles would be a label too flattering for such people.

I agree but I mean on a serious and deeper level as to what literally would make someone who is on a bus decide to get up and kick in the window…. Madness and utter hooliganism
For such acts of wanton vandalism, I humbly suggest that a canning might be the most suitable punishment.
“Six of the best” across the backside and then we would see just how frisky these “gurriers” are?

Sick and tired of the endless destruction and vandalism across the city of public services and facilities like transport and parks. These mindless idiots are destroying their own communities – downgrading the quality of life for everyone. Each morning, i witness more vandalism along my commuter route – spray painted graffiti, vandalised shelters. What is it in the psyche of these people that they seek out destruction.
Nobody killed or injured – these type of actions take place dozens of times a day all over the country.
Ah sure that’s ok then. Bet your opinion would change if it was your Windows kicked in.
Sure the poor bus drivers are powerless. Anyone who gets a bus heading direction ballyfermot or Coolock will arrest to the dirtbags that openly smoke cigarettes and even on one occasion heroin. If the passengers are too afraid to speak out as a cohesive unit, what hope does a driver have on his lonesome

Could be sound lads who on one night of drunken madness go and do this. Really stupid considering they are now barred from going to Australia/USA or are they? Knowing this country they probably won’t be convicted.
