The top 10 countries that spend the most on beer... (yes, obviously we're up there - but where?)

Not necessarily a figure to be proud of…

WE’RE ALL WELL aware the country has a not-entirely-healthy relationship with drink.

But how does our consumption compare with the rest of the world?

Well, there are obviously a few ways of measuring it — the most reliable being the comparative figures supplied by the OECD.

This is interesting too though: the US website financesonline.com has put together an infographic of the ten countries that spend the most on beer per person per year.

As you can see, Ireland comes in second on the list — just behind those thirsty Australians, and well ahead of our neighbours in the UK…

[Can't see it properly?]

Of course, the cost of living is a major factor here.

Just because we spend so much on beer doesn’t necessarily mean we drink the most…

No, we’re sixth on that particular list…

[Can't see it properly?]

There are also some interesting stats on the price of beers in different countries…

Most expensive versus least expensive:

[Can't see it properly?]

[Can't see it properly?]

The figures used by the site come from the Numbeo cost of living database and the Kirin Holdings report on global beer consumption (both pretty legit sources).

The latest alcohol consumption figures from the OECD show Ireland is sixth in the group of 34 nations, with the average Irish adult consuming 11.6 litres per year, compared to the OECD average of 9.4.

Sat Singh that because it’s very expensive, you need to buy an annual licence to purchase it and only foreigners drink it,

If we could prove that they were all P****d on the night of the Bank Guarantee would it help the Germans to understand a bit better, after all they were out of their heads all through the 1930s and got forgiven for it financially after the war.

Hold on a second !!! How is Saudi Arabia which is supposed to be a “dry” country, one of the cheapest places for Beer when a huge number of it’s neighbouring countries in the Middle East are the most expensive for Beer ??? I’m fairly certain that in large parts of Saudi, you can’t buy ANY type of alcohol ! (Surely some mistake with this survey)

I know for a fact that about 300k Saudis go across the Bahraini border (which is more permissive) every weekend to party including to be able to drink & the price of Beer in Bahrain isn’t far off the most expensive in the region !!

Pathetic fall down drunk, alcoholic country! You idiots want to buy a house, the market has “turned the corner” then we can go and have a “few” drinks to celebrate. Sure nothing wrong with a few drinks. Few is the Irish word for 35.
