Have a ticket to a cancelled Garth Brooks gig? Here's how you can get a refund

You might also be able to get that hotel booking refunded.

AS MANY AS 160,000 people were left disappointed yesterday as two nights of Garth Brooks gigs at Croke Park were cancelled.

You already knew that though, right?

This means that each fan who bought a ticket for Monday and Tuesday night is now out of pocket to the tune of roughly €80.

The National Consumer Agency (NCA) has moved to quell any fears, releasing a guide of how you can make get your money back.

Tickets: In most circumstances, you’re entitled to a full refund if an event is cancelled.

However, this is only if you purchased your ticket through a business. If you bought one from a private seller, you’re not entitled to the same rights.

Hotels: This is where it might get tricky. If you booked a stay in the capital for the night and now wish to cancel that booking, a refund on this is up to the hotel in question, so you will have to check with them.

Many offer the facility to cancel a day or two in advance, but you may lose a deposit. In some cases, no refund will be offered.

Transport: Same as above, it will be up to the business you purchased your ticket from.

Irish Rail has already tweeted to say that customers will be entitled to a full refund.

Bus Éireann’s website details all refunds are “considered solely at the discretion of Bus Éireann”.

Most airlines don’t offer refunds, but you may be able to get some amount of tax back.

Some Garth Brooks concerts are cancelled? When did this happen? I’m ringing Pat Kenny on RTE radio 1 to complain.

Are the refunds onto a credit card or will cash be refunded for tickets? I was in crowd to get tickets when told bout 4 being the max amount so this lady beside me offered to get two for me on her credit card. I don’t know who she was but handed her 150 cash for the two tickets. I have the tickets but think it may be her credit card refunded

The private sellers are in the money. They will get their money back having already sold them on already. So get paid twice.

Only private sellers who bought online and got an e-ticket then re-sold it (as they have proof of purchase) Anyone who bought from a ticketmaster outlet then sold their ticket won’t be able to get a refund, because they dont have the ticket anymore. It’s the people holding the tickets that will get refunds. The only people that will have problems are those that bought from a private seller who used a credit card to buy the original ticket, as refund will have to go back on the card that was used to purchase

I hate Garth brooks, but there are loads of people who like him.. So many disappointed people, and people who are going to be seriously out of pocket because of a hand full of residents looking for compensation…. If the houses in croker were built before the stadium then maby you would have an argument, but they were built after the stadium so therefore if you bought your house next to the venue, sell up or shut up… It’s only for a few nights anyway it’s not like it’s forever.. I think if the concerts don’t go ahead the reds dents may have bigger problems on there hands, with fans talking about street party’s and basically everything to piss off the residents…

They were built when it was a sports stadium, not a concert one. Fair enough if you’ve not lived there long but if you’ve lived there 20+ years then this isn’t what you moved into.

It’s the promoters and Garth who are to blame. There’s an agreement in place to allow 3 concerts. One Direction already took those. They should have known something like this could have happened but they very arrogantly sold for 5 dates and now Garth Brooks is bullying the council.

If he cared so much about Ireland, like he’s been bleating on about, then why not play the 3 (which the council are being generous about) then find smaller venue/s and spread the other 2 out. It’s not as if he’s in huge demand in many other countries. Instead he’s decided to throw his toys out of his pram and have a temper tantrum

I was not going to concert and I do believe that the promoters were chancing their arm by pushing for 5 nights but Ireland could do without the negative publicity that this shambles will generate so in the interest of damage limitation, would it not be an alternative to let the 5 concerts go ahead on condition that there would be no concerts in Croke Park in 2015. Lets hope that all concerned have learned a lesson but it is the people who bought tickets who have been hung out to dry.

Take all the gigs off Dublin City Co. Then see how their members and mates in Chamber of Commerce react to having millions of € taken out of the city.
Move to Punchestown or somewhere that would step over their own grandmother to get an opportunity like this. I’d also like to know why a lot of people are blaming the GAA. Sure they’ll do ok out of it. They’re the only organisation in Ireland that bothered to build a world class venue to cater for this sort of thing.

Surely the GAA just gave the promoters the use of the Stadium. Id say the only involvement they had wad agreeing a price per show.

Good luck trying to get a hotel refund, greedy showers hiked prices for this ill faithed event. Seems the only entities that will make money out of this debacle will be the credit/debit card companies who won’t be refunding merchant commission charges which run into 100′s of thousands, nice little earner for them. I can’t see aiken promotions surviving this disaster. He was on moaning about not getting any inclination the dates would be declined, bizzare given the event was always subject to licence (bizzare in itself) , public sentiment etc, he was the very person pushing for more and more dates. Foolish from start to finish.

All the ads on radio and newspapers for upcoming concerts say “subject to licence”. I’ve always wondered how promoters can arrange something so big pending a licence to go ahead? Most concerts do happen, so maybe it’s a bit of a legal thing…
