John McAreavey named as witness at Michaela murder hearing

The husband of Michaela Harte, who was murdered in 2010, has been listed to appear at a preliminary hearing to assess the evidence against her killers.

THE HUSBAND OF Michaela Harte has been named on a list of people to appear at a preliminary hearing to assess the strength of police evidence against her alleged killers.

John McAreavey, aged 30, discovered Michaela’s body in their hotel room on 10 January 2011. The couple were on their honeymoon.

The Irish Daily Star today says that John’s name appears on a list of 28 witnesses to be called by the prosecution.

Police believe Michaela was strangled by floor supervisor Sandip  Moneea, 41, after she discovered him and cleaner Avinash Threebhowoon, 29, burgling her suite at the Legends resort in Mauritius.

Last month, Treebhoowoon’s lawyer said he would insist that McAreavey would have to give evidence at the trial.

The men are facing provisional charges of murder.

Michaela is the daughter of Tyrone football manager Mickey Harte.

The hearing opens next Tuesday, 21 June.
