'Human remains' found during Luas works outside Trinity this afternoon

Archaeologists have been called to the scene.

BONES WERE DISCOVERED by Luas cross-city construction workers outside Trinity College’s front gate this lunchtime.

Director of Communications for Luas Cross City, Grainne Mackin,  told TheJournal.ie that workers have “uncovered what we believe to be historic remains”.

She added that the remains may be medieval.

The area has been cordoned off and a team of specialists have been called to the scene. Mackin said:

Upon first visual inspection they appear to be human remains but a sensitive excavation will be carried out. It could be done by tomorrow or Friday.

Luas works will continue outside of the cordoned area where the bones were unearthed.

The authorities have been alerted about the discovery including the National History Museum and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

April traffic last year was virtually non existent due to the first lockdown with all of europe pretty much shut down. Mostly repatriation flights…… There could only be an increase in April this year. Four times next to nothing is still next to nothing. Dublin Airport is still virtually dead with cargo and business jets making up a large chunk of arrivals and departures. Govt travel restrictions in full force.

@Scott Crossfield: 3300 transatlantic passengers in a month is crazy. 110 a day. Over 5/6 flights. 20ish per flight. Hope they all got bumped up business class!!

@Scott Crossfield: the blame Tony crowd are clueless in fairness. Unless they are all Leo and Michael fanboys.

I don’t think the covid loving mob are ready to move away from the outdoor drinking yet so might be best to keep this article on ice for a few more days when they are ready move on to their next outrage.
