Irish surfer goes missing in the waters off Byron Bay in Australia

The man was surfing with two friends who were rescued.

AN IRISH MAN has gone missing in the waters off Byron Bay in Australia while surfing yesterday.

The man was surfing with two friends aged 26 and 20 who were rescued by volunteers according to Nine News Brisbane.

RTÉ are reporting that the missing Irish man is 19-years-old.

Searches for the missing Irishman were called off this afternoon local time because of rough conditions says the local news channel.

They report that the 26-year-old was assisted from the water and did not suffer any injuries, while the 20-year-old was found on rocks with minor injuries.

I hope he is found safe. Just a point though,it is unlikely they are surfers and prob just out with boards. Unfortunately many Irish are dying in Australia simply because they can’t swim. I think unless you can easily swim 300 meters without stopping you should avoid open water or the deep end of your local pool.

It never ceases to amaze me what people think is worth stating at times like this. Does it really matter what his skill level was? You don’t know he wasn’t a professional surfer. Professional surfers, swimmers, boaters have all fallen prey to the sea. This person could be floating on his board feeling cold, exhausted, terrified, hungry, thirsty …or worse. And imagine what their parents are going through. Yet some tard always feels the need to say something judgmental. The only thing that needs saying at this point in time is may he be found safe and alive and if that can’t happen, may the family at least be given some sort of closure.

It’s a beautiful but deadly spot. People say it’s the easiest place to learn how to surf because of the long continuous break. This can lead to inexperienced people attempting to surf there. Hope he is found

A beautiful place, great surfing but known as dangerous.
Hopefully he is OK, long sandy beach so it’s easy enough to get hauled along the coast by the rip.
