Luas back running with delays following city centre crash

The service was halted for a time due to a crash between a jeep and a motorcycle.

Updated at 5pm

THE LUAS GREEN line service is operating with slight delays, after service was interrupted following a crash this afternoon.

Harcourt Street and Hatch Street were closed for a time as gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident at the junction of the two routes.

A jeep and a motorcycle were involved in the collision, which happened at around 4.15pm.

The motorcyclist has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries, which are not believed to be serious.

Both streets are now open to traffic once again, and the Luas is back in operation.

So the luas wasnt involved in the crash – as it states it was between a car and a motorcycle – but the first thing people comment on is how the Luas shouldnt be overground or that it will be even worse when the cross city works are done…

Completely agree Aishling. Apparently if a crash takes place anywhere near a Luas line or station it becomes a Luas incident. Last week it was a fatal accident involving a truck near Heuston station and the Luas was implicated because it stops there.

Was in dublin yesterday, on a relatively rare trip. Saw a car in the yellow box outside Heuston Station with the Luas continually having to beep for him to move, resulting in 3 luases getting back ed up. Surely everybody knows by now that you don’t stop in a yellow box?

It should have been put underground from the start. The cheaper quicker option is not always better long term

Of course I can read stupid!! The luas will always have problems in Dublin whether they’re involved in the accident or not. The streets are too busy and congested for all to share.

Believe it or not Dublin isn’t the only city where crashes happen involving trans.

Drivers wont be long learning when they are hit with fines for blocking yellow boxes and breaking lights.

There are overground trams in many cities. Can’t blame the tram for accidents like that, the luas drivers are very vigilant.

Cities better suited for them. Not congested central Dublin. The streets are too narrow and busy.

Somebods has obviously never been to Prague. There are cities with tons of narrow congested streets with way more extensive tram systems than we have

I’ve lived in Prague for two years, Budapest for longer and have lived in Amsterdam twice for in excess of a year on each occasion – all three are busy cities for traffic and have no problem operating trams. The problem with Dublin and Ireland is that so many are willing to take a chance on an amber light, ignore the hatched area at junctions and rely on their belief that “the other person” will stop and not hit them.
    .
In the case of this accident it would seem that the Luas was stopped to facilitate the emergency services dealing with a road accident (not on the line).

As I’ve stated on similar threads, for those of you who are thinking about using this thread to b1tch about motorcycles, how dangerous they are and how they should be banned, do it somewhere else. Nobody cares what you think.

Haha, well i prefer that to the usual guff you see on here whenever a motorbike is in a crash. Particularly, the implications that the motorcyclist was at fault due to speeding when there is absolutely no evidence given as to the cause.
