5 apps worth downloading this week

Featuring an intelligent time assistant, a novel way to get you out of bed and a handy way to get rid of unnecessary apps on Android.

EACH WEEK, WE highlight five apps that are worth downloading for your smartphone and tablet. There are a lot of apps released on a daily basis, but not all of them are worth paying attention to.

This week includes an intelligent time assistant, a novel way to get you out of bed and a handy way to get rid of unnecessary apps on Android.

MZR
For: iOS
Cost: Free

- Just to throw a warning out there, this game contains a lot of flashing so if you prone to seizures, it’s best to steer away.
- Now that’s out of the way, MZR is a game all about circuits and mazes. Choose the shortest path by tapping the right destinations in order.
- It’s fast, it’s frantic and the visual style will remind you of many old PC games.
- The time limit keeps you on your toes and you will make mistakes in the heat of the moment, but that’s what makes it fun.
- A fun little game that you can easily dip in and out of.

Wakie
For: Android, Windows Phone
Cost: Free

- Here’s a nice twist to the traditional alarm clock that may just help you get out of bed.
- The draw of Wakie is instead of using a traditional alarm, you’re woken up by someone using the app.
- A call lasts sixty seconds, once that passes, the call is disconnected meaning you don’t have to go through any awkward moments.
- You have to join via Facebook, but once you do, set your alarm and it’s likely someone will wake you up. The makers say that it’s all private and no details are shared between users.
- A fun idea, but have your normal alarm set just in case. Provided you don’t mind talking to a stranger for a minute, it’s quite novel.

Mirage
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

- Remember the guys that made the app Yo? You know, the app that only lets you message Yo, remember? Well, they’ve released another app.
- This time, it’s taking inspiration from Snapchat, offering a minimalist photo messaging app.
- This is actually a situation where simplicity is better. Tap on someone to send a photo, hold to send a video. That’s it!
- The big draw is not only its simplicity, but the fact you can message those without the app.
- It doesn’t have the same level of customisation as other apps like Snapchat, but it’s enjoyable if you’re only into quick, instant messaging.

Easy Uninstaller App Uninstall
For: Android
Cost: Free

- This is not an app that’s going to win prizes for its name, but thankfully what it does is far more useful.
- In case the name didn’t give it away, Easy Uninstaller App Uninstall (EUAU) gives you an alternative method of managing your apps.
- The process of uninstalling apps on Android is unnecessarily longwinded to do, but EUAU does make it so much easier to complete.
- You can sort them by battery usage or app usage, the latter showing you which apps you rarely use.
- If you find yourself installing apps regularly, but running out of space, EUAU will certainly help.

Timeful
For: iOS
Cost: Free

- Timeful describes itself as the “intelligent Time assistant” and claims to use behavioural science to help you complete tasks.
- You start off by entering any task you need done, but instead of just having a general to-do list, it uses algorithms to help you prioritise.
- The app learns from your past plans, responses to suggestions and what you achieve to help create better scheduling recommendations in the future.
- Eventually, once you have used it enough times, it will be able to place to-do suggestions at the best times, ensuring you start forming good habits.
- If you’re finding it difficult to keep up with daily tasks, this is for you.

A friend worked for Facebook in Dublin she brought me in for the grand tour. It’s amazing. The facilities are out of this world for staff. The restaurant is award winning serving 4 meals per day, they have games stations for xbox etc, a room top garden, a barrista which does all quirky kind of coffees. Relaxation rooms, plates studios, a room take your own 3D wooden signs, music room, even a crafts are for knitting etc. I wonder when they get time to work. They seem to really look after their staff really well. I came out wondering if they got much time to work. They even had a big candy cart full of all sorts of sugary treats. (Reply to John Joe)

Agree Chief, I have real friends who I contact rather than 500 whose only interaction is through a website…..

I left fb 8 months ago & it was the best decision ever. I have enough problems and drama in my own life without being subjected to that of all my fb “friends”. It was kind of taking over my life to be honest & I realised that was unfair to my family and the REAL friends I have. I do miss being in day to day contact with relatives abroad but with email & cheap phone calls that’s not such a big problem to be honest.

Far as i know, when you have one site, such as Facebook, open, your data on the other sites, such as youtube and other searches can be accessed by them.
