Monaghan factory ordered to close because of foul pong

The smell from the factory, manufacturing fertiliser pellets, could be detected half-a-mile away.

A FACTORY MANUFACTURING fertiliser pellets has been ordered to close by a judge because of an offensive smell.

LRNR Ltd. was operating a plant near Clones in Co. Monaghan, which was making the pellets from chicken manure, reports Monaghan Life. Five jobs have been lost with the closure of the plant.

Neighbours had complained of a foul smell coming from the premises, and a planning officer from Monaghan County Council said the odour was so bad that he had to wash his clothes after leaving the site.

The company was fined €1,500 and was ordered to pay almost €1,800 in costs to Monaghan County Council.

Question is why not one fish factory in Killybegs was fined for the stink of fish or all that dumping of bits of fish guts into the harbour that was left of the shore line for weeks and where sea gulls were covered in oil. Good on that judge.it is about time people spoke up for their local environment.
