POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are staging a large-scale operation in Belfast as a republican anti-internment march takes to the streets.
At the same protest last year, loyalist rioting left dozens of police officers injured after they were attacked.
This afternoon’s began earlier at 1pm, and a raft of road restrictions are due to remain in place until 2.30pm.
As many as 4,000 are expected to take part in this afternoon’s parade, which marks the introduction of internment in 1971.
Two other protests, organised by Loyal People’s Protest and Shankill Residents Group are also due to take place.

The fact loyalists are having a counter demonstration sums them up, how could this possibly offend them, catholics marching to remember when they were locked uo without trial. Loyalists are an embarrassment to themselves.

very well said. Not only the media, but also the high-profile promoters of the peace process are into the very same carry-on. There’s a preference in the ‘establishments’ (in London, Dublin, Washington DC, & Brussels) to see the peace process as a model,a successful one, an example of an ‘inspirational’ kind to the rest of the world. When one tries to challenge that, there are many organisations/authorities/individuals that get quite ‘cross’, to say the least…
Hopefully the Loyalists will respect the anti-internment march and not cause as much trouble as they caused last year.

If Loyalists were interned too, why would they protest an anti-internment march?
Because out of 1900 people interned in 1971 only 150 were loyalist.

There are people up here in prison without any charges against them, there is still internment in the six.

I have lived in New York for 25 years, and I amazed that these people insist on reliving the past, they really need to move on, it was disgrace to see mothers dragging there children along to these parades. Move on, better yourselves!!! The worlds a big place, broaden your horizons

Jamie, I castigate both groups of neanderthals. As is usual with primitive beings, if you are seen to criticise one grouping it is incorrectly assumed that you are, in fact, pro what is considered to be the opposition.
And Jamie, you have a very good memory for names.
Banga, It is better to remember lest we forget the evils that were perpetrated against the Nationalist population in the North. This is why the peace process must work. Loyalists don’t like the new status quo of having to respect the rights of everyone living in a small shared space.
Compare it to the Israelis treatment of the Palestinian people. The Israeli terrorist buffoons are allowed to run a muck and murder as many Palestinians as they want. They intern children as young as 5 years old (In fact they have quotas of needing to lock up 700 kids under 10 every year).
Nationalists commemorating the unjust internment policy is a way of saying to the British Government, never again and hopefully the British will also see that they need to stop supporting Israel in its endeavors also.
Cal, I would tend to disagree with such a black and white approach. Our opinions are influenced by our environment, classical conditioning and a measure of cognitive dissonance. Our independent thinking might not be as independent as we might assume. My opinions might be correct or incorrect if either of such conditions actually exist.

Banga, calling people Neanderthals for marching to remember the abomination that was internment, while clearly defending the murder of Palestinian children by the Israeli forces seems pretty black and white to me. You support the murdering Israeli army and their right to intern kids under 10 years of age without trial. Please tell me I am wrong.
