SNAPCHAT HAS BEEN growing significantly over the past few months. With the app now seeing over 500 million ‘snaps’ are sent among its users a day.
Now it could see the debut of not only the first ads on the service, but also news stories which will follow the same disappearing act as photos and videos.
A report from the Wall Street Journal states that the app is preparing to launch a new feature in November. Called Snapchat Discovery, the service will show content and ads to users from both advertisers and media companies.
It’s said that at least a dozen media companies, one of which is MailOnline, have been in discussions with Snapchat about providing content for this new platform.
The idea is that Snapchat Discovery would allow users to read daily editions of publications as well as watch clips of TV shows or movies the same way they view images and videos.
Last month, Snapchat was rumoured to be close to a $10 billion valuation when it was raising a new round of financing. The Chinese internet giant, Alibaba Holding, had considered investing in the app but decided not to.
According to slides obtained by Digiday, roughly half of Snapchat’s users are aged between 13 to 17 and the app has more than 30 million users.

This pattern of feeling ok after the weekend and then being wrecked in the mornings / exhausted sounds a bit like early stage long covid. Might have to consider taking it easy for a while to get over it. As otherwise it can become chronic. Hope I’m wrong as I wouldn’t wish it on anyone
