Craig Doyle: Nighthawk? Photocall Ireland

RTÉ's autumn revamp will see the return of Nighthawks: report

Craig Doyle will reportedly front the new late-night programme.

CRAIG DOYLE IS to front a revival of the late-night chatshow Nighthawks as part of a major revamp of RTÉ Two television this autumn.

The Irish Daily Mail reports that the former BBC Sport presenter will front a Nighthawks-style show that will be broadcast once a week but will increase to three if successful. It is part of an overhaul of the television channel that it is felt is needed in light of hemorrhaging viewership and falling advertising revenue.

Nighthawks was first presented by Shay Healy when it was launched in 1988. It featured several future comedy stars including Kevin McAleer and Graham Norton. Ironically, it was launched as part of a major re-branding of RTÉ Two as Network 2. The station then became known as N2 between 1997 and 2004 when it reverted to RTÉ Two.

As part of the overhaul, the Mail reports that Aprés Match’s Barry Murphy will front a series called Murphy’s Pictorial Weekly with Maeve Higgins’ Fancy Vittles axed. The reality show Naked Camera is being moved to Thursday night on RTÉ One.

Oh FFS. The due date on the promissory note can be pushed back 100 years without causing a credit event in europe. It can be done, it should be done, instead of what happened last year i.e converting it into soverign debt which will accrue 13 years interest before being landed on our kids, and michael noonan declaring it a victory.

So the good news is what? We are still paying a dead banks debt but spread over a few more years. So hurry let’s get more people working in this country to pay this debt and make up more taxes just to pay this debt. Here’s a novel idea. Let’s not pay it?

Why don’t you go kick Angela’s door door and tell her whats what…. Your novel idea will mean that Ireland will be refused funding thus meaning we will not have any money to pay for social welfare, public services etc… Its quite simply really… In addition the international reputation which has restored over the last 2 years would be undone in one foul swoop…

Quite simply Gavin, there is more revenue in bad news than good news… The people who hit up journal.ie and other websites and certainly the ones that comment are predominately anti-goverment…thus your readers shall we say want bad news becasue they thrive on it! There is commercial value in turning small stories into big ones and also in dragging out stories way longer than they need to be… The comments of Pat Rabbitte in my opinion were on the money!!

Declan – From comparing our traffic figures to the level and number of commenters, we’d feel pretty confident in saying that the majority of our readers are silent and don’t feel particularly compelled to engage in comments. I wouldn’t interpret the attitudes of the minority who DO choose to speak their minds as reflective of the overall majority.

    @ Declan.
I don’t think that’s fair on Gavin. The government have given people many reasons not to believe or trust them and by their own admission they have lied and gone back on promises.
The Journal just report news and would it ever dawn on you that a huge amount of people actually detest, lothe, dispise the government and are sick to the back teeth with them and their deception.
I reckon you would have a serious eye opener if a vote was called tomorrow.
