Are you THAT person? Almost half of Irish people regularly post photos online while on holiday

A new study also shows that over half of us are partial to a selfie while abroad.

A GOOD HOLIDAY is never complete without letting all your friends back home know about it.

A new study has shown that almost half (47%) of Irish people regularly share photographs on social media throughout their holidays.

Out of those surveyed 45% had the decency to wait until they got home to start boasting about what a good time they’d had.

Despite the glut of uploading Irish holiday makers, less than one fifth of people confessed to taking photos to show off to their friends, with more people saying they wanted to take ‘great photos’.

When it comes to a holiday snap we are rather adverse to anything food related.

The avalanche of ‘legs by the pool’ hot-dog snaps was met with disapproval by around a third of those asked.

Pictures of food were also deemed to be poor form by a substantial number of the recipients.

Over a half of us have admitted to taking a selfie while away. Despite this one fifth of Irish people expressed hatred for images of their friends photographing themselves.

The research, which was conducted by Canon Ireland, also found that we have something of a bizarre taste in international celebrities.

The three male celebrities Irish people would most like to take a holiday selfie with are Barack Obama, Bradley Cooper and… Richard Branson.

The three international female celebrities we went for were Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie and Oprah Winfrey.

Our domestic choices saw President Michael D. Higgins put down as one of the top three male celebrities Irish people would like to take a selfie with. Not very presidential perhaps. But if it’s good enough for the Pope…

The other two male domestic celebrities to make the top three were Chris O’Dowd and Brian O’Driscoll. Our three domestic female choices were Amy Huberman, Saoirse Ronan and Laura Whitmore.

The most popular social media outlet for holiday makers, keen to keep their friends back home in the loop was Facebook, with 81% of us gunning for likes.

Instagram and Twitter followed in second and third place with 41% and 28% respectively.

The ones that do my head in are the photos of what folks had for dinner. Thats worse than holiday snaps.

“YUMMY! Scrummy #SuperNoodles for dinner tonight! #FeelingFat”

    Piss off, no-one cares!

Or worse still, “check out my gluten free, wholly organic open tofu sandwich with quinoa and tiki seeds”. I mean, what the fu”k is quinoa anyway and what’s more, who actually cares?

Why are you following these people then? Just unfollow/unfriend them. Or hide them from your timeline. You chose who to follow.

@duner who is they? you can have privacy settings that only your friends can see your posts, and the only way your non friends can know is if they are Facebook, or they hack it, are you suggesting that’s burglars do nowadays?

@ shiny sides. Do you think every page you click on is legitimate. Have you never been told by friends not to click a certain page or not to like certain stuff. Have you ever used wifi outside your house that’s not secure cyber crime and information is bigger now than it ever was.

@duner ya cause someone that has the technical knowledge to do any of that stuff will end up going around robbing houses, I’m not saying it’s not possible but it makes no sense, it still works like back in the days, people know when people go on holidays by just looking at the house or just by hearsay and they will go and rob it, they don’t need Facebook to tell them.

@ shiny sides. Maybe your right. But they used to look up death notices on the papers and rob your house when you were at the funeral so I take no chances.

Why can’t people just enjoy their holiday, and not worry about whoring themselves on Facebook and the likes, just to, effectively say: “Neh Neh ne Neh Neh”

“Neh Neh ne Neh Neh” – funny because that is exactly what I say when I’m tearing out their bedroom drawers looking for cash and jewelry.

I never put my travel details on social media. After you come back – maybe. Never during. Loose tongues and internet are a burglar’s dream.

Do you tell nobody at your work,in your area, your neighbours your family?do you get the to swear an oath of silence until you get back?what makes your house so special that you think people are watching social media to see if you’re out of the country?it only takes 10 mins to rob a house not 2 weeks.

It’s solipsism and self indulgence mixed with insecurity and partial isolation from offline connections. The more you feel the need to tell everyone about your dinner, kids, holiday or happiness, the more I’d be concerned for you.
