TWO CHILDREN WERE returned to their mother after three years in care. The judge said it was a “good news story” that she didn’t come across too often.

The solicitor for the Child and Family Agency (CFA) also said that it was a positive story and acknowledged the work that the mother had put in.

The social worker who prepared the report on the case said that significant progress had been made in the past seven months.

She said that the mother had been active in taking part in all the supports and they were happy to let her daughter return home to her.

“All the supports are there to allow this to happen,” said the social worker.

“It is Child A’s wish to go home. She very much wants to feel normal and not to be known as the ‘child in care’,” said the social worker.

“The mother has been engaging with the agency, has been making great progress and the CFA wants to continue to support her. We wish it all to work out for Child A and mother,” she said.

The judge said it was with her “great pleasure to discharge this care order. It is not very often I can do this in court”.

“I commend [the mother] on all her work.”

She said she would like to see supervision be put in place for a period of 12 months and she wanted all supports to be put in place to support the mother.

“It is not going to be easy, but I am sure you understand that yourself,”the judge told the mother, which she replied that she did.

“I wish you all the best and I hope it all goes well for you,” said the judge.

‘A Week in the Family Courts’ series will be running all this week on TheJournal.ie.

Nearly every article she features in is about right to life, amendment 8 or something similar.
This woman and her mentality are going to ruin Renua.

A woman’s body is her own and what she does is up to her, not the ageing sexist religious idiots that run our country. we should decide, and have control over our own bodies. we don’t need another Savita Halappanavar case. It’s the 21st century, not the bloody Middle Ages and the government should be protecting us, not enforcing these draconian laws upon us

Deborah until such time as women can conceive children without men then I’m afraid that you are going to have to put up with us having an opinion on the matter. Unless things have changed dramatically since I went to sleep last night it still takes two people to make a baby or have you forgotten that? If men can be chased after for maintenance (and rightly so) if a woman chooses to keep an unwanted pregnancy then why shouldn’t they also have a say in whether or not the child should be given up for adoption?

As for your comment about draconian laws taking over bodies an being held hostage, talk about hyperbole. Those laws were not introduced or ratified by an all male electorate. Quite a lot of your “sisters” also voted for them or has that slipped your mind as well.

Some men here feel too important because they are needed for conception. Good to be important in some way, huh? “Sisters” were brainwashed and afraid they wouldn’t get to heaven if voted no. They thought suffering in this life would make them live a happy eternal life. Unfortunately, not all people have the privilege of thinking for themselves even to their own detriment. One can only pity them.

I’m for the women here, it’s their bodies and their choice. And women can have babies without direct male consent; it’s called artificial insemination.

God just because you give up a teaspoon of love honey, you think that gives you the same purchase over a pregnancy as the women? Some of you lads aren’t even in the 20th century with your attitudes to women’s bodies: same attitude of ownership and now you think democracy enshrines your perceived ownership of all women’s bodies! That it’s okay for you to try to bully and control individual women about their personal choices in regards to their own bodies!

Someone mentioned that 200,000 women leave ireland for abortions every year. Why aren’t you out there stopping them Brian ? Because you can’t, because, despite its flaws, that’s real democracy in action, where people can make choices about their bodies and their lives. Unfortunately it just costs irish women a lot more time, money and effort than their European counterparts.

Derry I have read up on the Adoption Act and I am well aware that fathers have a say in whether a child is to be given up, that is not my point. My point is that women who find that they have an unwanted pregnancy should consider the fact that adoption is a choice and that abortion isn’t the only means available to them. This attitude that women should have the only say in an unwanted pregnancy is denying the fact that it takes 2 people to have a baby and as a result if there is an unwanted pregnancy then the man should at least be consulted. They may be unable to do anything about it and I certainly wouldn’t advocate that a woman should be forced to go through with a pregnancy but this “My body, my choice” attitude leaves men off their responsibilities and puts pressure on women to deal with the crisis alone.

Medical or sexual assault aside in a case where people conceive a child then both sides have to deal with their responsibilities and think things through.

Renua want a referendum on the 8th amendment sooner rather than later because they know time is of the essence. They know Ireland is changing and is only going to become more liberal as time passes and the older, more conservative population dies out. We have had many chats with our children in the last few weeks and have impressed on them that their generation will have some very important issues to sort out. We are still influenced by the past but they are free of those shackles and can make up their own minds as part of the generation that was born into a more open, mixed society

While I’m pro-choice I’m always conflicted about abortion (in a gender selfish manner)

A woman can ignore the wishes of a man and have a termination (even if the guy wants to raise the child)
She can also have the baby and then force the man to pay for her to raise it (even if he wanted no child)

Purely hypothetical, if abortion is made legal, should a guy be allowed to discharge his paternal rights, in the courts?

Understand what prochoice means. You are not the one carrying the foetus. You are not the one taking the health risks. Ejaculating in her vagina is the only input you have in a pregnancy. Beyond that it’s completely up to the woman to choose what she does. It’s as simple as that.

Ian, it has to be the woman’s choice in the end. If you wanted to carry on a pregnancy and the woman didn’t, how are you going to force her to stay pregnant ? Imprisonment ? Likewise the other way around, how do you force a woman to have an abortion. Both of those scenarios are unethical. It’s not your body to decide for.
