A MAN IN Belfast has been given an eight month prison sentence for spying on a woman using a police camera.
The court heard Ciaran McCleave, who was a CCTV operator at Antrim Road police station, had directed a camera at the woman’s apartment for 79 minutes over a 26-day period, BBC reports.
Commenting after the sentencing today, PSNI Operational Superintendent for North and West Belfast, Muir Clark said it was “regrettable this incident took place”.
“It was something we uncovered locally and we dealt with robustly,” he explained. “It is right that those working for the Police Service of Northern Ireland are held to account via a number of mechanisms including through the legal system.”
As a result of this incident, the PSNI has reviewed the work processes of its CCTV operators and put in place a number of procedures to help minimise the risk of this happening again.
An internal organisational review into the use of CCTV by staff and officers is also currently being carried out with the aim of ensuring that the actions taken by staff are “not only legitimate but morally sound”, Clark said.

Non fatal offences against the person act would handle PI’s, it would come under harassment.

PI do it all the time, I have dash cam vidio camaras in my vehicles recording very trip and even when they are parked up, they are no big deal, they are becoming essencial pieces of kit nowadays.
With the amount of camel-toe on display these days, that’s not a bad idea at all…
