Want to get married on a Sunday in January? You're literally* the only person who does

*Slight exaggeration – there are a few of you.

WHEN IT COMES to getting married, a Sunday in January is always the bridesmaid and never the bride. (Sorry.)

The first day and month are the least popular choices when Irish people are finalising their wedding date.

Just 555 marriages took place in January 2013, compared to 3,071 in August of the same year – the most popular month for marriages.

The figures, based on marriages in 2013, were released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) today.

Unsurprisingly, seven out of ten couples choose to tie the knot on Fridays and Saturdays. Just 313 of the 20,680 couples who married last year did so on a Sunday.

Roman Catholic marriages accounted for six in ten weddings, while one in three were civil marriages.

Civil Partnerships

There were 338 civil partnerships – 208 male unions and 130 female unions.

Almost three-quarters of the couples who enter into civil partnerships live in Leinster, with over 40% residing in Dublin.

Of the 676 individual partners, some 636 or 94% were previously single while 37 (5%) were divorcees.

There was a one to four year age gap in over 41% of all male partnerships, compared with almost 49% of female partnerships.

A referendum on Marriage Equality is set to take place next Spring.

Age gaps

In almost two-thirds of marriages, the groom was older than the bride across all age groups except in the case of grooms under 25, where the bride was older in four in ten marriages.

The vast majority of marriages (88%) were the first marriage for both the groom and bride. There were 2,230 marriages involving at least one divorced person in 2013.

If you want to learn something else it’s “thought”, not “taught”.

Times Square is great to see once or twice (night/day) for the lights etc but the place gives me a headache. Overcrowded and overpriced. I wouldn’t recommend anyone in NY go near the area on NYE either
