M50 reopened after dramatic truck fire brought under control

No injuries were reported.

Updated 9.40pm

THE M50 motorway was shut down after Junction 6 in Blanchardstown this afternoon after a truck caught fire.

Emergency services were on the scene battling the blaze, and diversions remain in place.

Gardaí said at 9.20pm tonight that the M50 north at Junction 6 has now been reopened following the blaze.

It is not yet known what caused the truck to catch fire, but the incident is understood to have taken place at around 3.30 pm.

AA Roadwatch and a number of passing motorists have taken these dramatic photos of the blaze, which witnesses say involved a trailer carrying bales of hay.

A Garda statement this evening confirmed that the lorry had been carrying hay when it caught fire, and predicted the affected stretch of the M50 would remain closed for a number of hours as emergency services put out the fire and remove debris from the road.

A hospital must be the most difficult building to plan a fire evacuation plan for. Since most of the people in the building require special assistance to move and even specialised equipment to stay breathing. That and the whole building is a fire hazard with oxygen being piped everywhere.
    God love them.
