'Upbeat' radio station aims to start positive conversation about mental health

The pop-up radio station is live all this week.

THIS WEEK ‘UPBEAT On Air’ pop-up radio station will bring 75 hours of live music and chat dedicated to promoting positive mental health.

Launching yesterday from St Patrick’s Mental Health Services, the station will be broadcast live all this week for Mental Health Awareness Week.

A number of well-known household names have got behind the initiative, including Rick O’Shea, Shay Byrne and Nikki Hayes.

The aim of the radio station is to promote positive mental health throughout Ireland by playing upbeat music, as well as starting an open and frank discussion about mental health issues.

Starting the conversation

Speaking at the launch yesterday, Paul Gilligan, CEO of St Patrick’s Mental Health Services said they hope that ‘Upbeat On Air’ will get people talking about the importance of mental health and it might make some steps towards removing the stigma often associated with mental health.

The importance of seeking support and professional advice at an early stage, to deal with mental health issues, cannot be emphasised enough. Very often people can be afraid to take the first courageous steps towards recovery.

Listeners can tune in to ‘Upbeat on Air’ on 99.5fm and online at www.upbeat.ie all this week from 7am till 10pm.

The Rock or Cashel isn’t a castle. It’s a collection of ecclesiastic buildings.

@The Shape: Try saying “castle” after 4 or 5 pints and the similarity will become obvious. Some great 4th options!

Cork has the most castles (within a county) in Ireland and Britain. I hardly have Blarney in the top ten in Cork never mind nationally.
