ESB has restored power to 12,500 homes....7,500 still to go

A severe storm with lightning strikes caused the power outages.

Updated 13:15

ESB CREWS ARE continuing to restore power to thousands of homes after transformers were struck by lightning in a severe storm yesterday.

Over 20,000 homes and businesses in Waterford, Wexford, Cork and Kilkenny lost power and were out overnight as repairs were not able to be carried out due to the weather conditions.

ESB crews have now managed to restore power to around 12,500 customers and are currently working to restore power to the remaining 7,500 homes which are still without electricity in Waterford and South Wexford.

Transformers were struck by lightning in the south and south east of the country.

Customers have been advised by ESB on Twitter to  keep up to date on the PowerCheck  App.

ESB Networks spokesperson Mike Fitzgerald said the storm was unusual because it was very severe and prolonged.

Well done to ESB, I know I wouldn’t fancy that job in this weather.

Don’t forget the overtime bill. I know several of them who refer to a storm add a ‘cha-ching’…..

    I don’t get it..!

I live in Southern Florida. We get biblical sized storms 4 days a week here during the summer months and the power never goes out…

Anyone who’s visited here will know that…

How come tens of thousands of Irish homes have to suffer every time there’s a storm? The network should be built to withstand some lightning in this day and age…
