Here's the video that made LEGO kick Shell to the kerb

A Greenpeace campaign has led to the toy giant distancing itself from Shell.

GreenpeaceVideo / YouTube

LEGO HAS SAID that Shell will no longer be allowed to sell its toys sets, following a Greenpeace campaign.

The Danish toymaker decided not to renew its contract with the oil giant after a viral campaign highlighted the dangers of Arctic drilling.

Environmental activists Greenpeace launched the above video in July, which shows a Lego Arctic landscape with a Shell drilling platform become submerged by oil.

Lego’s CEO Joergen Vig Knudstorp told AFP that the company didn’t want to be involved in the dispute and called on Greenpeace to engage with Shell directly.

Nevertheless, the company has decided not to renew their three-year deal with Shell, which allowed them to distribute toy sets to customers in 30 countries when they bought 30 litres of fuel.

Royal Dutch Shell PLC has plans to drill in the Arctic coast of Alaska, but did not pursue them in 2013 or 2014 because of technical problems handlings and adverse weather conditions.

Greenpeace described the announcement as ”fantastic news”.

The organisation is extremely vocal in its opposition to drilling in Arctic waters, saying an oil spill in the area would have a disastrous impact on the marine environment.

Rainbow Warrior 2 was sold to be used as a hospital ship in 2011. They’re now using Rainbow Warrior 3. It is equipped with masts and sails, and is also a hybrid. It does use oil and gas, seeing as they are currently among the few options currently used in ships, but it is designed to minimise toxic emissions. Maybe you should do some research

Lego is rarely dumped or burned. It’s an ideal use for oil. Far better than using oil derivitives to power a car because you’re too lazy to walk.

Eh stretching the facts a little? Lego choose not to renew a contract hardly laying the smack down on shell. More like Greenpeace making a mountain out of a molehill

Massive global media coverage of this kind of statement by a multi-billion dollar company (also the largest toy manufacturer in the world) is hardly a small deal, never mind the likelihood that Shell was making money off that contract and also the short and long term repercussions of this.
