Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Wright described how scratch and sniff cards – which replicate the smell of cannabis growing – are being distributed to the public so they can detect the smell.

“We are pleased to have removed this amount of cannabis from circulation in our community and I would urge anyone who has information in relation to drugs to contact us immediately on 101.

In Colorado, US, pot is not illegal.
They tax it. Popul of Colorado is 5m ppl.
They made $3,500,000 in pot tax …… In January alone.
It is expected to top $610,000,000 in tax next year.
Tax it, fund drug treatment centres properly, stop wasting police and court time and shelling out to solicitors because some lad likes to smoke a joint.

What’s with the forensics suit ? Is he afraid he might contaminate the maryjane
I don’t smoke the stuff but it should be legalised and taxed look at the jobs it would create and the revenue it would generate. It’s ok to have people drunk and fighting but being stoned and peaceful is wrong how is that logical.

The time to legalise is now.
    - create jobs
    - take money away from criminal gangs
    - generate huge tax revenue
    - allow people access to medical cannabis which can have life changing effects.

If 2 grams of cannabis costs €50. that’d mean an ounce( theoretically ) costs between €500-700. 2 ounces(57 grams) is €1,400. 8 ounces(half a pound) would be worth €11,350. 1 lb (454 grams) would cost €22,700. So if I had 2 pounds(907 grams) of high quality, top grade cannabis( haze, amnesia, cheese, kush etc) I could get 45,350 euro if I sold it it 50 bags? You could see how that’b be appealing to somebody without much money. Is this how they come up these figures? £750,000 worth of cannabis?. Is this suppose to be some sort of achievement? Why don’t they ever declare the exact weight of the seizure and always the alleged price. How the garda come up these ridiculous figures i’ll never know. They obviously don’t understand/can’t comprehend that if you buy in bulk it’s far cheaper. Probation of this miracle plant is a human rights violation in my opinion. It’s illegality has never stopped me smoking it and never will.
In Ireland you can go into your local TESCO EXPRESS and legally purchase 10 cans of cheap cider, a shoulder of vodka , 100 cigarettes and 5 packs of paracetamol finish them all off in one night yet you’re forbidden from smoking a joint in the privacy of your own home. That seems so illogical to me. Why can’t the government take responsibility for once and lead the way on cannabis legalization . Be the first independent country legalize it completely for both recreational, medicinal and or spiritual use. I’m 100% positive that if it were to be legalized(and therefore de-stigmatized ) it would massively benefit Irish society as a whole not just financially but culturally too. All the arguments these anti weed maniacs can come up with are in fact a direct result of it being illegal e.g accessibility to children / cost of these pointless ‘busts’ to the taxpayer, waste of Garda time, court resources etc all over a plant that has never harmed anyone ever and has been used for thousands of years for a variety of different reasons. free your mind people. think for yourselves!

You can’t buy 5 packets of paracetamol. You can only buy one at anytime.
If you did take 5 packets of paracetamol you’d die in the most horrible way over the next few weeks with liver failure.

Not only should we decriminalize cannabis we should decriminalize all of them. Putting these narcotics in the hands of big pharma would be a disaster (And it would, they’d be lacing soft drinks with cocaine etc).
So there is only one way to do this.
-There has to be one licensed monopoly firm licensed to make them , we can have competition for the license but after it’s awarded only one company gets to produce them.
-The company does not make a profit, but takes out only enough to pay it’s stafff and take one flat fee per year, -All the profits go directly back into drug rehab and education.
-Have them sold in specialist centres that include lots of security, a needle exchange and a safe injection site.

This set up would have the following positive effects:
-With dosage and content control there would be less deaths
-Instead of the money going to enrich drug barons it would go into a world class drug rehab system
-All the key gangland criminals would go broke and be forced to eek out a living on swag and burglaries, they’d no longer be buying gold plated AK-47s
-Police time would be freed up to go after real crime.

Now we can’t sell them to under 18s so this is an area where the drug criminals might try to hold on to their market, so to get around this we have one simple law. Dealing drugs outside the legalized framework carries a mandatory sentence of life without parole in solitary confinement. We have this system introduced by ordinary referendum so that no one political life is on the line for introducing it when (inevitably) the first person dies from overdose of legalized drugs, that way there is no blowback, it’s all our collective decisions.

Lets show some imagination for once.

Heroin shouldn’t be sold. It should be given for free to people who can prove they are long term addicts same with cocaine, meth and all other highly addictive drugs. Cannabis, mushrooms,
Ecstasy, lsd etc should be part of the market and available to buy from a off licence type place
