Pac-Man, Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog are getting their own An Post stamps

It’s almost like it’s the 90s all over again.

IF YOU REGULARLY look back on the days where you could sit down and play the SNES or Mega Drive with fondness, you’ll enjoy this.

An Post has issued a collection of retro gaming stamps which feature some of the most iconic stars and games from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

The four stamps include Bandai’s Pac-Man, arguably one of the first iconic videogame stars created, Namco’s Space Invaders, one of the arcade games that helped shape the industry in the early days, and SEGA and Nintendo’s mascots, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Mario (both are in their early 90s incarnations).

Game Icons Stamps CMYK The four retro gaming stamps issued by An Post. An Post An Post

The stamps were designed by the Dublin-based graphic design studio Zinc Design Consultants.

The stamps will cost 68c each, or €2.72 for all four, but if you don’t want to send them off, you can purchase a first day cover (FDC) for €3.72 or a sheetlet for €10.88.

If you want to refresh your memory, you can relive some of the more popular games from the 90s, or if you have a few minutes to kill, play some PacMan or Space Invaders.

Why should someone with 20 years service with a company who now is on PUP because their company hasn’t brought them back yet go and find another job and not sit it out with their current employer and maybe get a redundancy payment?

@Michael: And why can’t Mickey Martin look the cameras straight in the lens when he is addressing the nation, its like he has zero presentation skills which is embarrassing for a Taoiseach, it makes him look like he has no confidence in himself or is trying to hide something. Leo, whom I have no time for at least knows how to posture and deliver a live speech like he is talking to each and every viewer individually. Mary Lou has it down to a fine art, so too does Pearse Doherty and Paul Murphy to mention a few who have mastered the art of oration. Micky Martin needs speech delivery coaching even after all these years as a Fianna Fail politician which is pretty pathetic considering.

About a month ago, I finally got set up with a desk at home. So now, I’m studying web development, so I can go freelance for a few years, then hopefully get enough experience to get a job… even entry level jobs in this field require 3-5 years experience here. In the uk, though, most places don’t require experience for entry level, based on jobs a friend has been sending..

@iEuropean: yeah, im on the payroll because I’m a realist. How dare I have a differing opinion from clowns like you. There was no work in my profession for quite some time in recent years, so I went labouring on sites and doing whatever I had to to keep money coming in. No no, I have my own houses in kildare and tipperary, and I’m in a very happy and loving relationship with my wife thank you for asking.

Lots of businesses are reopened, over 60% od those previously in receipt of pup are now back in work. Pretty good going in fairness considering this is a whole world issue

@PaulOMahoney Irish: No, because most European countries spent the 3 months of lockdown planning and investing in a safe reopening meaning they have a propper legislation for masks, temperature checks, testing at airports and propper contact locator forms that allow them to trace cases, meaning no Quarantine needed while entering the countrys. while our politicians spent 3 months doing nothing but suiting their own political interests telling us all what a brilliant job they were all doing, telling us to clap the HSE workers and to wear green jerseys.

Here, Ministers, it’s not OK to be drinking at work either, yet your bars at Leinster House are probably the most visited in the Western hemisphere between the hours of 10 am and 12 pm! Some ‘screening’ there too would be proper order, even by the Treasury, as some of you’s won’t even pay for your grog! https://www.rte.ie/news/politics/2019/1230/1103555-dail-bar-bills/

    Hi everyone!
WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE DOLE!
The time has not elapsed for those in the dole. Jobseekers have been under the regular screening and controls all throughout the pandemic
Including threats to cut the payment for not meeting the objectives.
When the country went to full shut down, some jobseekers were threatened with cutting the allowance for not being genuinely seeking for work, this happened in March and early April

HR was and have been labelled an essential activity so those jobseekers in job activation programs have been under continue screening and controls … with libraries closed and the job activation centres shut down …. so people without access to a computer, printers, scanners and free internet … long term unemployed …. has been threatened with cutting the payment even though some achieved the objectives and FINALLY got a job … and then boom! Pandemic and laid off before starting

And then jobseekers got out, for their exercising time in their area and what do they see ?
People in PUPs taking this as a lovely Stay in Home paid holidays … going outside of their area because outrageous crying -this is not a police state! No one can tell me what to do- ….. well if you are in the PUPs, yes, the State can tell you what to do …. otherwise do not claim it

And at the top of all of this, people without any right to claim State assistance in the PUPs such as Americans with traveling visa or students visa … all over everywhere because apparently the covid does not spread when traveling in bicycles

I am still thinking the PUPs was an excellent contingency plan with the side effect now of people knowing the wonders of the Dole

The PUP schemes should have had been complementary with a job activation scheme so they can identify genuine PUPs assistance from those who needs to accept the new reality and make arrangements as anyone else
