Malala Yousafzai donates $50,000 prize money to help rebuild 65 schools in Gaza

The 17-year-old won the Nobel Peace Prize this month.

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE winner Malala Yousafzai announced today that she is donating her $50,000 prize money to rebuild a United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) school damaged during the recent fighting in Gaza.

The donation was announced during Malala’s acceptance of the World’s Children Prize in Stockholm, Sweden.

Her website, I Am Malala, quotes Yousafzai as saying she is donating the money to UNRWA as they are “performing heroic work to serve children in Gaza, in very difficult circumstances”.

She said the children of Gaza “want and deserve quality education, hope and real opportunities to build a future”.

The funding will help rebuild the 65 schools damaged during the recent conflict.

Innocent Palestinian children have suffered terribly and for too long. We must all work to ensure Palestinian boys and girls, and all children everywhere, receive a quality education in a safe environment. Because without education, there will never be peace.Let us stand together for peace and education because together we are more powerful.

Hopefully life will be better to her than it has been thus far. Unfortunately I don’t hold much hope – inspirational, trail blazing characters rarely enjoy longevity in life, but they usually make up for it in longevity in history. Not sure which I’d prefer, but I don’t possess her courage so will never be faced with that choice.

Really wish people would stop bringing up his prize. He only got it because he opposed the Iraq invasion and later rose to power. It was premature, but it was only awarded as a demonstration of the committee’s opposition to the Iraq invasion, which I think was quite honourable even if the recipient was undeserving.

If Obama was a man of honor instead of the yellow bellied psychopath that he is he would have rightfully submitted that prize that he stole.

I don’t disagree, but it’s Obama to blame for not returning the prize. The prize still holds honour, the committee’s decision to award to Obama wasn’t as bad as it’s made out to be retrospectively, and I just hate to see this international recognition of attempts to build peace in the interests of all humanity so badly devalued by one choice that turned out bad, not even a bad choice.

Please stop this charade that Obama ‘decides’ anything in US policy. He doesn’t.

ALL the political leaders are there because a small group of very wealthy people paid to put them there.

Obama is an orator salesman/marketer for their interests, nothing more. As was Bush II, Clinton, Bush I, Reagan etc.

And in reality, the interests of any of the wealthy factions buying elections in the US are little different from each other.

The interests of Capital owners like themselves come first & foremost.

Secondary issues are which wars of aggression (and which primary Corporate interests profit by them) to prioritise, and what precise degree of oppression to apply to workers & the jobless.

The rest is just empty ‘optics’. The illusion of ‘choice’. Circuses for the people.

And it’s not much better here, or anywhere much. No meaningful democracy.

Among all the lies and false promises of elections, have any of the major parties done anything different? No.

All have been following the neo liberal jackboot political economic ideology for the last 4 decades at least.

The banking pyramid fraud bust in 07/08, and the deliberately, by Austerity, extended & deepened recession since, are both the result of this doctrine, by the wealthy, for the wealthy.

The money should have come with some conditions to advance towards peace from both sides
