Heuston train line reopened, but knock-on delays to affect rush hour

The line is closed due to a fatality on the line.

Updated 8.05am

THERE WILL BE major disruption at one the country’s busiest train stations today, after a fatality on the line between Sallins and Newbridge.

Iarnród Éireann say that the line, which was closed by request of the gardaí, has reopened, but there are knock-on delays.

Intercity services from Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway and Westport had been terminating at Kildare with road transfers to and from Heuston.

A spokesperson for the company said that the disruption was unavoidable and latest news would be posted online.

“For more info please go to irishrail.ie or @irishrail

“Iarnrod Eireann apologises for the inconvenience caused.”

Gardaí confirmed that the body of a 44-year-old man was taken from the track at Caragh at around 11pm last night.

They are not currently treating the incident as suspicious, but investigations are ongoing.

Terrible incidents like this morning unfortuntatelt occur. However its Irish Rail’s general disdain towards customers and inability to implement to a contingency which has customers riled up. Seems as though they are accountable to nobody and make it up as they go along with fares set to increase again. Granted this may not be the most appropriate forum for people to complain so perhaps the journal can put together another article on the general poor service that commuters are forced to contend with (shouldt require much investigation as the service is so shocking at times).

Ah yes, because Irish rail should have a fleet of buses on standby 365 days a year,24 hours a day and then be lashed for wasting money for having said buses on standby…….for feck sake get a grip on yourself

They do have contingency plans! Tickets can be used with other service providers such as Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann!

Now the only other alternative is to have a fleet of coaches available 24/7 which is simply unfeasible!

But no doubt you have a degree in logistics so probably have a perfect solution??? No???? Ohwell! “Won’t someone please thing of the children!!!!”

That poor guy. R.I.P and sympathy to his family.

Have a friend who is a retired train driver.

Remember him telling me that an incident like this is every train drivers nightmare. So sad.

No bus services for people who actually live in Kildare and get the train from there though, only for people coming from further out who are having to get off in Kildare.

While I sympathise with the commuters of Kildare, this may not be an appropriate forum to complain about their lack of bus access. Someone has died this morning.

I wasn’t complaining just saying so that other people who might be getting the train from there didn’t go expecting there to be a bus for them.

Sam, it would never have been possible to accommodate all the travelers it makes sense to do it for those who have come the furthest as those from the area would be more able to come up with other options.

I’m on one of the delayed trains from Dublin to Cork. No reason given as to why we now have to change at Mallow also. Just a very gruff announcement over the loudspeaker.

The Irish Rail service pretends it’s fancy but is among the most unpunctual and infuriating in Europe.
