Waiting for Apple Watch to arrive? It may be spring before it gets here

It’s expected that Apple’s answer to the smartwatch will be released in the spring, instead of February as was first expected.

WITH THE LIKES of Google powering the current edition of smartwatches, some may still be waiting for Apple’s version to be released.

When it was first announced back in September, the only hint at a date was ‘early 2015′,  but it looks like we could be well into spring before it arrives in stores.

According to 9to5mac, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores Angela Ahrendts mentioned that it will be spring before the watch arrives. She mentioned the rough timeline in a video to retail employees, saying that they would need to conserve their energy for the upcoming shopping periods.

“We’re going into the holidays, we’ll go into Chinese New Year (February), and then we’ve got a new watch launch coming in the spring.”

If it does follow this timeline, it will mean that Apple will miss its Valentine’s day aim which was previously mentioned, although it will give the company more time to deal with factors like battery life, a feature it didn’t touch upon during the original announcement.

The watch will come in three different versions: the standard Apple Watch, Apple Sport Watch and the luxury Apple Watch Edition. Each watch will be available in two sizes – 38mm and 42mm.

So far, the only price given for it is for the US where the standard version will cost $349 (€275)

I’ve never owned an Apple product and I’ve been skeptical in the past, but I have to admit I think this will be an excellent product. They’re arriving late to the party but will have learned from others mistakes (although the price is prohibitive).

I got a Samsung Gear Fit watch with my phone a few months back because it was 100 extra, so I gave it a try. They really are functional, a quick glance tells you if you need to take your phone out of your pocket or continue about your way.

Also, picture this – your phone is somewhere in the house, no idea where you left it, but you’re wearing your watch, tap a button and your phone starts to ring. Ah, in the couch.

Alternatively, standing on the Luas, you feel your pocket and your phone isn’t there. Panic, repeat the above step, hear your phone’s tone coming from some scr0te standing near you and then you all jump him and get the phone back.

Apple arrived very late to the smartphone party and their pricing is, definitely, not the most attractive. Watch them sell.

Yes, delayed releases, if anything epitomises company strength, it’s not being able to release a product as planned.

But how will you know what time of the year it is if you don’t have an Apple Watch? It’s a horrible Catch-22.
