Michael Noonan speaking in Brussels this evening. Screengrab/European Council

Noonan expects Apple tax investigation will be dropped

It was claimed Ireland had given the company a special 2% tax rate over 30 years ago.

FINANCE MINISTER MICHAEL Noonan said he expects the European Commission’s investigation into Ireland’s tax arrangement with the US multinational Apple will be dropped.

In Brussels this evening, Noonan was asked if he was concerned that there could be further investigations into Ireland’s tax arrangements. He said that he believed it would be the opposite, stating it is “more likely that that investigation will be dropped rather than there will be further investigations”.

While he added that he was speculating, he said:

My legal advice is that the Irish authorities will win the case quite easily and that there isn’t a very strong case by the Commission.

Ireland was brought into specific focus at  hearings in the US Senate when Apple’s CFO claimed that the Ireland had given the company a special 2% tax rate over 30 years ago.

That claim has been repeatedly rejected by the government, with Taoiseach Enda Kenny saying that the effective rate of tax is around 11.9% in Ireland.

Noonan added this evening that Apple had paid everything in accordance with law on their profits in Ireland.

Christ, do I have to spell it out?

DnB provides credit reports on companies AND individuals. So, you can purchase a credit report on just about anyone. So, you just enter a name and they’ll sell you a credit report.

    Is that clear now?

You see, you have to do all the research. It is not good enough to do 50% and make up the rest to suit your agenda. That doesn’t work.

You people are so bloody childish.

well chin why are these departments on the credit list ?
Or does the website just generate the address from thin air ? All data has a source – what is the source ?
Or does the website just give you the name and address you put in ?
And is the Department of the Taoiseach either a company or an Individual ?
I realise I may have answered these questions by looking at the site myself but seeing as it was raised in public !
This is the day we found out about potential major tax-dodging by ministers so allow us our suspicions – it’s not like they are trustworthy in my opinion !

Fyi the 11.9% effective rate is interesting. 10 small companies make 100 euro profit. And pay 12.5% each. The government collects 125 euro. 1 large company pays 2% and avoids millions. If these were the only 11 companies in ireland you could say the avarage effective rate is 2.5% or you could say its 11.4% and both would be factually correct. Lies damn lies and stats.
