Science Week: A question to tease your brain on a Monday night

How smart are you?

EVERY DAY DURING Maths Week, we came up with a little puzzle to wreck your head.

And the scientists of Ireland wanted in. So to celebrate Science Week, which launched yesterday, we have a different brainteaser for you every day this week.

We’ll start you off with an easy one:

You have a string-like fuse that burns in exactly one minute. The fuse is inhomogeneous, and it may burn slowly at first, then quickly, then slowly, and so on. You have a match, and no watch. How do you measure exactly 30 seconds?

Answers will be revealed on Friday. But if you want to start a discussion, feel free to leave your answers in the comments section.

These handy tips will help develop your child’s maths skills (without them knowing it)>

While I hope everyone recovers; this type of report: young lads, late night pretty much implies someone wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, and speed most certainly was a factor.

It’s not a bad road. I live in Clane. It’s a main road with minor x roads. Speed was involved.

Have to agree, I live out that way and often see fresh trye marks in the morning from the night before around the Kilcock, Clane and Maynooth area. Looks like people do be using the roads as a rally track in the early hours.
