Teenager in court after woman threatened in home by men with knives

They fled the scene with a substantial amount of cash.

Updated, 12 November, 5.20pm

A TEENAGER HAS been charged in court over an aggravated burglary at a woman’s house in Dublin yesterday morning.

The 17 year old appeared before Dublin District Court this afternoon after being arrested and questioned at Tallaght garda station yesterday.

He was detained in relation to an attack on a house in Citywest just before 8am Tuesday.

The woman in the house was threatened and assaulted by five men with knives.

The gang assaulted her and fled the scene with a car taken from the house and what gardaí said was a “substantial” amount of cash.

The vehicle was later found in the Glenshane area near Tallaght.

The 33-year-old woman did not require medical attention. Gardaí said there was no one else in the house at the time.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Tallaght Garda Station on 01 6666000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.

Thank god she wasn’t killed. Poor woman. I live around corner from her. Seriously slot of wrong activity in our area lately. Pity they didn’t break into our house the dogs would have had them for dinner time. Little d*rt bags. I will have my eyes wide open if anyone hanging around. Couple weeks ago there was about five lads walking on our road stating at houses,I looked out after them up the road and one of them stuck his fingers up at me. I could have been just looking out for a family member to get home or to see of neighbour home. Alarm bells when that’s the reaction you get for looking out your own front window. These types need shoved onto one of our lovely abandoned islands and left there with hard labour. Thoughts and best wishes with this woman.

A girl I know had her house burgled one morning in Rathcoole after she left for work. They got in through a downstairs bathroom window. People should lock all doors when leaving the house. Make it harder for the Ba stards to fleece you.

Could your lot not set up a Court in South West Dublin to look after this?

You’d be surprised. The taxman and social welfare can make banks unattractive for people savingmoney.

I don’t think it’s all Gardai fault though. For every 10 dirtbags arrested there’s another 100 on the next street corner. 1 trying to out do the other. That’s society these days. Realistically how do you fix it. Penalties, facilities, counsellors prisons etc. Whatever way you want to approach it. It all cost money. Which the country doesn’t have.

Ahh that old chesnut…’sure we dont have the money to lock them up’.
We do have plenty of money to pay the legal aid for these repeat offenders though. That bill is some €50 million a year.
The standard irish repeat offender generally has about 50 convictions it seems, thats 50 paydays for a legal aid representative.
I’d be interested to see how the costs of a repeat offenders legal aid compare to the costs of detaining the same offender? And whilst we’re talking costs add the social welfare payments the repeat offender supplements his crime income with whilst hes free on the streets.
Lets be honest, this is an irish phenomenon- Multiple conviction criminals free on the streets and seemingly undetainable.
So do we really not have the money to protect our civic minded citezens and lock these multiple conviction criminals up ? Or do we choose to feed that money into the legal profession instead?
Someone should really do the maths on that because the system is beyond broken.
