Enda Kenny announces 145 new jobs in green energy

The positions will be created over the next three years at a Galway firm making small wind turbines for homes and farms.

TAOISEACH ENDA KENNY this morning announced 145 new jobs at a firm producing wind turbines.

The positions will be created over the next three years at C&F Green Energy in Athenry, Co Galway as it produces a new range of small wind-powered generators. The devices are designed to power farms, factories and even individual houses and are much smaller than those used on wind farms.

Speaking at the firm’s headquarters, Mr Kenny said: “This is great news for Athenry, for Galway and for Ireland as a whole. Not alone are we seeing 145 new manufacturing jobs come on stream today but this project has the potential to generate significant spin off to the Irish economy.”

He added that the development of the turbines would “help place Ireland in the forefront of the developing renewable energy sector worldwide.” C&F Green Energy is a spin-off from C&F Manufacturing, which also works in tooling, vehicles, refrigeration and IT hardware. The jobs were supported by a “significant” investment from Enterprise Ireland.

John Flaherty, managing director of C&F Green Energy, said today: “We at C&F are very excited about the contribution we can make to this dynamic, modern industry with our strong track record in manufacturing excellence.”

There was more good news for Galway today as a start-up company announced it would be creating a further 20 jobs. Irish Organic Weedkiller, based in Claregalway, will open a new facility in the town today. The factory will be officially opened by Presidential candidate Sean Gallagher.

Reading the news from across much of the world in the last few months it looks like one of the solutions to all the financial woes is to create “green jobs” .Now ,aside from the fact that each green job in Spain caused the loss of 2.5 real ones, may I ask who will buy these products if every tom dick and harry is making their own?

Out of curiosity, did they fill the 250 jobs they advertised 2 years ago? http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/0514/candf.html
Some companies have been making big announcements about how they intend on hiring so many people but don’t seem to. I hope C&F do though, we could definitely do with them.

Now folks, you can hit the red button as often as you like but that will not make wind work. The little toy ones will cause war with you neighbours in D4 and as 80% of those in favour of wind power live in cities you can see the flaw ,can you?
“As has happened in countries such as Spain, this misallocation of resources has succeeded only in stalling our economy as unemployment and debt grow.”
At the moment our fuel bills are crazy and due to go up again, green power is many times more expensive than the mix we have now so get a grip folks, we can’t afford it.Or you could ask Enda to take it out of your household tax.
