THE NEW YORK Times featured a piece on Dublin yesterday, complete with an absolutely lovely video.

The piece recommends the Guinness Storehouse, the National Museum and the north side.

Here is the result of all that food, drink and music.

Nothing better than being a tourist in your own City for a day. Gives you a different perspective on the place.

    Great video.

How long do we have to wait before the anti-Dublin brigade come on commenting about junkies?

Some make it sound like its a Dublin only problem. Deluded if you think that. Ireland has just under 20,000 junkies. 10,000 of these are in Dublin/ Leinster region most seeking treatment at Dublin clinics. The majority of the remaining 10,000 junkies are in Cork , Limerick, Galway and Kilkenny. It’s a problem around the country
    in rural and urban areas.

36 hours in Dublin and not a single drunk or junkie to be seen. No mention either of the overpriced overrated restaurants or pubs, or the dirty streets.
Then again if you are a travel writer on an all expenses paid freebie courtesy of the travel board, these things won`t bother you.
This was an extended advertisement, not a critical , or impartial review, and should be treated as such by intending visitors to Dublin, who will find out the reality is a whole lot different.

Dublin must be rammed full of writers on freebies all year because the place was packed beyond belief all summer and even now in the middle of November if you venture into Dublin at the weekend you’ll see it packed but like you said it’s only good for people on freebies.

A Greek friend of mine went to Dublin last weekend for 36 hours. Said he had the best holiday of his life! People in Ireland are too quick to put down their own homeland.

I.e. Dublin is now like every other yuppified, hipstered, branded shopping center for the affluent 1%…

No real Dublin character left, no culture, and the same old trinkets in museums you’d never return to.

Marko is obsessed with shopping centres in Dublin, he mentions it at least once a day. Something all cities have not just Dublin.

It takes less than 3 minutes once you get off the Luas in O`Connell street before you get accosted by junkies, this is the only capital city in the world where this has happened to me. Also shop owners constantly having to eject them.
Same thing outside the central bank, where I tried to sit and read my book. It took all of 5 minutes before one sat down beside me with an empty plasic cup begging.
But the sadly deluded who think Dublin is wonderful don`t ever seem to meet them, it`s like you cant mention the elephant in the room, despite the fact that the elephant is so big you cant even get around the room anymore.

“No great conversation ever started with someone saying – Y’know I was having a salad and …” Love it. Great quote. Surprised to see an Irish bar man knock our national Guinness stout as inferior though.
