POPE FRANCIS HAS delivered a historic address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg today.
The Pope complained that Europe is viewed by the world as “somewhat elderly and haggard” in a speech to MEPs earlier.
He was speaking on what is the first trip by a Pontiff to the European Parliament in more than 25 years. But he did not hold back in his criticism saying that the continent has become “less and less a protagonist” in the world.
He also called for a “united response” to the deaths of thousands of migrants by drowning as they seek to get into Europe. He said that the Mediterranean cannot be allowed “to become a vast cemetery” .
Irish MEPs were particularly excited about the Pope’s arrival in the French city and were doing plenty of tweeting earlier…
