Mick Wallace applied to be Garda Authority boss, but didn't even get a 'PFO'

The Independent TD says he got an acknowledgement but no interview — and he wants to know who else applied for the role.

WEXFORD INDEPENDENT TD Mick Wallace has again hit out at the Government over the selection process for the head of the new Garda Authority.

Josephine Feehily — the outgoing head of Revenue — was nominated for the role earlier this month.

But speaking to RTÉ’s Drivetime this evening, Wallace insisted she was unsuitable for the job as she already “works for the State”.

He also revealed that he himself applied, telling host Mary Wilson:

“I applied for the job but I didn’t get an interview.

I got an acknowledgement of my application. I did not get an interview. I wonder who else got an interview? Who did apply?

“It would be nice to know these things. It would be nice to know how the Government does its business.”

Wallace also called upon the Government to provide a list of the candidates that applied for the Garda Commissioner job.

The TD was fiercely critical of Noirín O’Sullivan’s appointment as full-time Commissioner today, saying it showed the Government wasn’t serious about reform of the force.

Compliant with EWTD and, in addition, by local agreement, have a fatigue break for 20mins every 2 hrs. If ATC have that, why not doctors?

So the IAA employ the air traffic controllers and also regulate them?
    Conflict of interest perhaps?

One of the many reasons Google cited for splitting itself up yesterday was to “Drag airports into the 21st century”.
The day of half-asleep aircraft controllers and crowded terminals with people waiting for hours will be over soon hopefully.

If you want to stop air traffic controllers making mistakes and killing people by accident, then don’t knock sleeping junkies out of the recovery position. Just some wise words.
