Joan Burton: Labour will see out its term in office

The Tánaiste has said that a General Election won’t be taking place next year.

TÁNAISTE JOAN BURTON has remained adamant that the Government will survive its term in office.

Reports at the weekend suggested that some in Fine Gael have mooted the possibility of calling an early vote, but is something strongly opposed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon at the launch of a report by the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland, Burton said that Labour is preparing for an election, but it envisages that it will take place in 2016.

“This government will will see out its term,” she said,”There’s a huge amount of unfinished work we have to do.”

We also have a social recovery to implement, so I’m looking forward to in next year’s Budget actually continuing with the progress made in this year’s Budget.

The Tánaiste described the measures coming into effect in the coming weeks as “small starts”, but significant for those who will benefit.

Burton also wouldn’t be drawn on whether she expects a repeat of the Jobstown protest, and said she has ‘co-operated fully with gardaí’ investigating.

No actually, it is for her (and Enda) to say. The government, while it can muster the votes to stay in power, always gets to decide when an election is called.

No I hadn’t heard that when you put a gun to a Taoiseach’s head that you actually put it to the heads of 4 million Paddies as well …… how is that going to work out for me I wonder >

I think that voters should not rule out the possibility of Labour getting into some new coaliton (not necessarily with FG).

With this in mind (and I know people would like to see all Lab TDs out but that isnt going to happen), I think people locally should not vote for people like Burton, Kelly, Howlin, Rabbitte and those Labour TDs who failed their constituency so dismally.

At least then, if the remaining Lab TDs wangle their way into a coaliton we wont have to deal with these people any more

I presume this is a joke, right?

How on Earth are Labour, or indeed Fine Gael ‘far right’ parties. They’ve acted to protect the same collectivist structures that all Irish governments do. Socialising bank debt, maintaining world beating welfare rates, infesting our state utilities with unions…. Whether you agree with them is one thing, but it’s just incorrect to say that that any of these represent the actions of “far right” parties.

    Dermot,

Increasing the PS in any form isn’t far right, it’s leftist.

Now I’m not saying FG are leftist, but they certainly aren’t far right. Neither are FF either.

No one seem to know what right and left is in this site. It’s depressing.

For real left wing ideology, read the Socialist parties website.
For real right wing ideology, read any information in the Tea party in the US.

We have no right wing politics here. But that doesn’t help the narrative.

Ms Joan Burton TD claims to protect core social welfare payments?

Ms Burton TD cut the Old Age Pension payments not once but twice in her capacity as Minister for Social Protection.

This lady could not cut existing pension entitlements.

The alternative move for repayment of banker debt was her inspired decision to cut all future pension payments to citizens about to retire and for every future pensioner.

Not content with this deception, Ms Burton prevented retirement at 65 and thereby extracted a full years pension entitlement from all citizens about to retire and from all future pensioners.
Pensioners must fund the full year until reaching 66.

This lady Labour Leader should not be bothered with statistics about the estimated 2000 Irish citizens who will die from hypothermia and other avoidable illnesses each year.
This Ms Burton cut fuel allowances and capoed electricity allowances.
Her Office responded that the Troika are respinsible.

The story of protecting core social welfare rates is false.

Now this Labour Minister Kelly, Alan promises to solve the social housing waiting list of some 95,000.

And Mr Kenny has a busy schedule.
Mr Kenny ,Taoiseach of all the peeple,….is set to meet with all the thousands of abuse victims ….personally and at Dail Eireann.

Mr Kenny is against cronyism and will not bestow favours on any obe individual abuse victim.

After all this is a democracy…
