Children gather around Ryan Turbridy ahead of tonight's show.

Toys, dancing and Ryan Tubridy singing... The Late Late Toy Show is only a few hours away

A record number of children will be appearing on tonight’s show.

THE WAIT IS over. The Late Late Toy Show is on TV tonight and here’s the important news: this year, Ryan Tubridy will be wearing FOUR Christmas jumpers.

We’ll also get to hear how good his singing voice is. As part of the opening act, he will be performing a song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the theme of this year’s show.

So what can we expect from tonight’s programme?

RTÉ has confirmed that there will be a record number of children appearing from all over the country this year, with over 269 performers and toy testers taking part in the show.

Toy Show Preview 13 Toy testers in this years show Julia Dempsey (8) from Carlow and Cara Hayes (9) from Dublin.

In what sounds like it could be a performance close to Riverdance, the opening act alone will have 46 performers, while a total of 191 singers and dancers will be showcasing their talent throughout the show.

It’s not just the number of performers that have reached new heights: the number of toys Tubridy and his little helpers will be checking out has also reached record levels, with over 200 toys featuring in the show and over 300 toys used for the set design.

We all know that the tickets are like gold dust, but a number of lucky children will get to experience the magical set ahead of the show.

Toy Show Preview 16

Kids nominated from a number of charities such as Heart Children Ireland, Laura Lynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, Temple Street Children’s Hospital, the Central Remedial Clinic and National Rehabilitation Hospital are going to get to experience the wonders of The Late Late Toy Show set beforehand. Their time on set will be captured and screened during the show.

The Late Late Toy Show is a nostalgic experience for everyone, young and old, with many Irish people abroad getting fairly upset at the idea that they could miss this year’s show.

Fear not: no matter where people are in the world you can enjoy the beginning of Christmas as RTÉ describes ‘Irish style’ by watching the show live online on the RTÉ Player or catching up with the show later on.

So, make sure you get out of work on time, put on the fire, grab a cup of hot chocolate, put the feet up and enjoy the show. It kicks off at 9.35pm.

Love the toyshow it brings back such fond memories :-) I don’t care who presents it but in fact I think Ryan does a lot better with the kids has more time for them then any of the previous presenters .

You can never take away the great memories and nostalgia of this from when you were a kid. However that doesn’t mask the fact that it’s a load of sh**te! People abroad getting upset over missing this need to take a good, hard look in the mirror.

Yes, it’s everywhere, which is why we don’t need people bringing it up on lighthearted articles about the Toy Show.

    Michael

Most of us are pretty broke these days but you cant deny kids the magic of the Late Late Toy Show just cos we are feeling the pinch. Dreaming about what Santa Claus might bring……

Besides there are great charities out there who do trojan work to help families who are in need.

Michael I grew up in the 80s in absolute poverty. Children do know when their parents are strapped for cash but the toy show is an absolute pleasure to rich & poor!!

The toy I wanted from santa back in the 80s was the speak and spell computer, they say it was the first home computer back in the day..

    m.youtube.com/watch?v=cgNAqh4Mg9Q

Yes there was absolute poverty back then and I was a kid who grew up at the time, I wanted that toy as soon as I seen it in the toyshow but santa never delivered, hence my argument
