IT WAS JUST two years ago that Gangnam Style was basically EVERYWHERE.
And it turns out that so many people watched it that it changed YouTube forever.
In a short post on Google+, YouTube said that they had no idea that South Korean bonkers-pop maestro PSY’s song would be so massive.
“We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY,” they say.
‘Gangnam Style’ has been viewed so many times we have to upgrade!
When watching popular YouTube videos, the last thing you might think about is the impact it has on the site itself. The fact that Gangnam Style led to huge changes at YouTube shows that viral videos are literally changing the way the internet works.
The video has already been viewed over 2 billion times… and counting.

I know the Journal tend toward spells of thematic saturation. Is this to be a week/month of website articles containing ~150 words unrelated to the title’s claim?
By change YouTube forever do they mean increase the number of advertisements??
2^32 is 4 billion, so they must be using signed ints, just in case a video is watched a negative number of times?
If even 50% of journal commentators knew what a signed int was, the world would be a better place.
