Tie down your wheelie bins - there are gale force winds on the way

We hope you have a strong umbrella because it’s going to rain as well.

MET ÉIREANN HAS an orange weather warning in place in a number of counties this morning with strong winds expected throughout the day.

These winds will reach gale force in exposed areas so start tying down those wheelie bins so they don’t cause any mischief. Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will get the worst winds, according to Met Éireann.

Make sure you take your umbrella with you too, as heavy rain is forecast for today, though it should clear by this evening.

Thanks to that rain, it will be a little warmer than the last few days with highest temperatures reaching 10 or 12 degrees. Don’t break out the bikini though – tonight will be “bitterly cold”.

Clare County Council issued a warning earlier this afternoon land, home, and business owners in front-prone areas to be diligent, as flooding is likely, especially in coastal areas between this evening and Thursday morning.

“”The public are strongly advised not to venture out in these areas during this period for their own safety and to note warnings from Met Eireann,” the statement added.

My wheelie bin gave me two black eyes earlier this year when I went out to put it upright during a storm, lid blew up & hit me right on the nose. It can go wherever it likes this time. Lesson learned!

An Argos catalogue in the bottom of the bin is very helpful in times like this, I’ve found.

Jacqui, thanks for that. Gave me a great laugh & made me feel less stupid for spraining my ankle, tripping over my upturned bin, in the dark, last storm!!! Had to take a week off work, with my Elephant ankle!!!
