NEXT YEAR WILL mark the 100th anniversary of a hugely influential speech by Pádraig Pearse.
The graveside oration at the burial of Fenian Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa is often seen as a key point in rising Republican feeling ahead of the 1916 rising.
Now Glasnevin Cemetery is trying to identify those in the picture taken moments before Pearse began to speak.
“They think that they have foreseen everything,” Pearse said, “think that they have provided against everything; but, the fools, the fools, the fools!
They have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace
The high-resolution zoomable version of the image is available on the Trust’s website, which each mourner identified with a number.
Glasnevin Trust has said they aim to put together an exhibition dedicated to O’Donovan Rossa.
Anyone who believes their relative may be in the photograph is asked to contact historian Conor Dudd.

O Donovan Rossa was a first cousin on my mothers side..glad to have a connection to such an influential person…pretty sure he’d be disgusted to see what’s happened to Éire…
My grandfather wasnt there as he was in Mountjoy. He wouldnt snitch on the lads who stashed the guns which were used in robbing Charlestown’s post office. The money was used for the rising etc.
If it’s anything like the numbers supposed to have been in the GPO the Glasnevin curator is going to be busy!!

I was cloned and I’m now part robot so it’s hard to tell from my angle. Still it’s a lovely cemetery not the place I would purpose for marriage in but I could definitely see myself settling down in there.
